VIKINGS WIN BIG AT HOME AGAINST AURORA

Hoover Hockey came out strong, dominated in the zone, and beat the Aurora Greenmen 5-1 in a physical and fast game Sunday afternoon at Center Ice. In a game that saw three times as many shots on net from the Vikings, hitting and checking were the name of the game, with both teams visiting the penalty box throughout the three periods of play.

The first period brought two goals from the Vikings, with the first scored by Preston Mackert, assisted by Zach Lawson and Alex Zielke. The second goal of the period was scored by Shane Saba, assisted by Bradley Harcourt. Period two started out slow, with the third goal scored almost halfway through the period by Samuel Hankins, assisted by Parker Adams.

Up three to zero after two, the Vikings needed to put the game away early in the third, which they did with Kirk Greenho looking sharp in the net against the most shots in the game. At 12:23 in the third, Preston Mackert delivered a pass off of the boards to Zach Lawson who handed it to Daniel Murphy to place in the net. Aurora's lone goal came in the third, with Hoover quickly following with a goal by Bradley Harcourt from Cole Bukowy to finish the game. Next up for the Vikings is Canfield, at the Ice Zone in Boardman on Wednesday at 5:30. GO VIKES!!!!

The Vikings battled, but came out short in the CVCA Holiday Tournament this weekend at Kent State University. Games against Normandy, CVCA and Brunswick were physical and tough, with the lone win coming on Thursday night against Normandy in a 9-5 victory. Four minutes into the first period, Preston Mackert buried the puck on a pass from Bradley Harcourt. Harcourt scored next unassisted and less than a minute later, Chaz Gordish scored on a pass from Shane Saba and Daniel Murphy. To close out the first period with 28 seconds remaining, Kyle Policcichio scored unassisted.

The second period started with a goal by Mackert assisted again by Harcourt, and two more goals, one by Dylan Oney, assisted by Saba and the other by Samuel Hankins, assisted by Alex Zielke and Alec Weber. Period three saw two more goals, one by Harcourt assisted by Mackert and another from Oney, assisted by Parker Adams.

On Friday, the Vikings played two games, the first against CVCA resulting in a 10-1 loss, with the only goal scored by Daniel Murphy, assisted by Chaz Gordish. The second game against Brunswick ended with a score of 5-3 with goals scored by Gordish from Saba, Harcourt from Mackert and John Derosiers from Gordish and Saba.

Saturday morning, the Vikings played in the consolation game against Normandy, with a final score of 7-2, with both goals scored by Preston Mackert, assisted by Daniel Murphy.

The Vikings have a week of practice, followed by a game on Sunday against Aurora at Center Ice. GO VIKES!!!!

Viking Fans Come Out in Full Force to Support Their Team

The Polar Bears dominated the Vikings, but the stands were awash in orange clad fans who were there to cheer on their Hoover team.  Hundreds of students and families packed Center Ice on Wednesday night for a game between Jackson and Hoover which was non-league, but most likely the biggest rivalry of the season.

The Vikings came out strong and dominated first period play.  A beautiful goal that hit the inside white bar and bounced out of the crease was placed by Bradley Harcourt, assisted by Preston Mackert and Spencer Mackert.  The period ended 1-0 in favor of the Vikings.

Jackson scored quickly and frequently in the beginning of the second period, lopsiding the score, and forcing the Vikings to more physical play.  A penalty ridden second and third period left the Hoover squad on penalty kill, and the game ended with two five minute penalties, resulting in both a Hoover and a Jackson player leaving the ice with just three minutes left to go in the game.

The team takes a break for Christmas, with play starting again December 29th against Normandy at Kent State Ice Arena as a part of the Kent State Holiday Tournament.  Come out and support your Vikings at 9:00 pm on the 29th, and again on December 30th at 10:00 am against CVCA and 8:00 pm against Brunswick, all at Kent State.  GO VIKES!!!!
