The Vikings are gearing up for the OHSAA District Tournament beginning Tuesday, February 14th.  After a disappointing 8-0 loss against Cleveland Heights last Friday, the team has regrouped and is ready to take on West Geauga on Valentine's Day at 6:00 pm at the Kent State Ice Arena.  A win against Geauga would mean another game against second-seeded Gilmour Academy on Friday, February 17th at 6:00 pm at Kent.  GO VIKES!!!!

VIKINGS FALL TO TIGERS 3-1

Sunday's game against Chagrin Falls was the win needed for the Vikings to advance to the Baron Cup.  Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.  With one goal scored in the first period by Bradley Harcourt, assisted by Shane Saba, the Vikings were able to make 29 shots on net, but were unable to get the puck past the netminder, with several shots coming close.

The team spent a good portion of the game playing keep away from the Tigers who had strong defense in position after their loss to the Vikings earlier this season, and needed a win for their spot in Baron Cup play. Kirk Greenho stopped 26 of the 29 shots on his net, looking tough and playing hard.  The Vikings meet the Cleveland Heights Tigers on Friday at 8:45 pm in Cleveland Heights for the last league game of the season.  GO VIKES!!!!

SENIORS HIGHLIGHTED IN GAME AGAINST NORDONIA

Our Viking seniors were the top performers in the Hoover 20-0 win over Nordonia this afternoon. Seniors Chaz Gordish, Parker Adams, Daniel Murphy, Shane Saba and Cole Bukowy were honored with their parents before the game, and recognized for their commitment and contribution to Hoover Hockey.

During the game, Murphy scored a hattrick, Gordish had 2 goals and 2 assists, Saba rang up 2 goals and 2 assists, Bukowy scored a goal and an assist and Adams contributed a goal in the first period. The Viking's other goals were scored by Mike Magana, Matt Smith, Sam Hankins, Preston Mackert, Brad Harcourt, Dylan Oney and Zach Lawson . Many of those players helped with assists and in addition, Alex Zielke and Spencer Mackert chipped in an assist each. Goaltender Korey Davis had another shutout in the net.

The Vikings need to put this win behind them and focus on a very important game tomorrow night against Chagrin Falls at the Pond to qualify for the Baron Cup. GO VIKES!!!!

BUSY WEEKEND FOR VIKINGS ENDS WITH A BIG WIN OVER AURORA

Two league games this weekend against CVCA and Aurora ended with a big win against Aurora on Sunday night at the Pond.

In Friday nights' game against CVCA at Center Ice, the ending score of 8-2 in favor of the Royals was a disappointing end to the follow-up of an 8-7 OT loss on Wednesday night in Parma.  The Vikings' two goals came from Brad Harcourt and Chaz Gordish (assisted by Shane Saba), both scored in the first period of play.  Despite an almost even number of shots on net (26 for Hoover, 23 for CVCA), the Vikings were unable to get the puck past the Royal's netminder.

Sunday night's game against Aurora went scoreless for both teams through the second period, with excellent netminding on both ends of the ice.  A focused Viking squad took the ice in the third, determined to score.  After good teamwork and puck movement down the ice, Preston Mackert was able to find the back of the net unassisted.  Two more unassisted goals followed, the first by Brad Harcourt with a shot from the point, and the second by Zach Lawson with a glove-side top shelf.  Mackert and Lawson continued the party, with Mackert scoring on a pass from Lawson, and Lawson scoring on a pass from Mackert.  Kirk Greenho had another shut-out performance net.

Next up for the Vikings is Nordonia at home on Saturday at 3:40 pm.  The team will also be honoring the seniors and their parents before the game.  Plan to attend to support our Hoover Vikings!!!!  GO VIKES!!!!

VIKINGS FORCE OVERTIME IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The Vikings have everything to be proud of with their second place finish in last weekend's Parma Tournament.  Wednesday night, when the team met with CVCA in the Championship game, our boys came out strong, played hard and kept the score neck-in-neck, forcing overtime play.

The Vikings scored the first goal of the game, with Brad Harcourt assisted by Shane Saba placing a great top shelf shot behind the goalie.  CVCA scored two quick goals just minutes later in the first period, but Hoover answered with a goal by Saba assisted by Harcourt and Derosiers.  The second period began with another Harcourt-Saba goal, this time assisted by Chaz Gordish.  Dan Murphy was next to the net, assisted by Zach Lawson and Spencer Mackert.  With three minutes left in the second period, Gordish scored, assisted by Saba and Alec Weber.  CVCA answered with a goal with 40 seconds left in the period, bringing the score to 5-5 after the second.

Things looked grim, with the score moving to 7-5, CVCA early in the third, but then an unassisted rocket from Zach Lawson and another Harcourt goal assisted by Preston Mackert, tied the score at 7-7 by the end of the 3rd.  5:43 into overtime, CVCA skated past the Vikings to win the tournament, with our fans cheering our boys efforts, and feeling proud of their sportsmanship and tough play.  Thank you, boys, for a great game!
