EAGLES LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK

Posted by Coach Gonzo at Feb 4, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

It was a tough two week stretch as Trumbull squared off against the FCIAC's best in games with Darien, New Canaan and Ridgefield.

Trumbull brought little intensity or physical play as they fell to 5th ranked Darien 6-3.  After a 7-0 victory over a rebuilding Westhill team, the Eagles played an excellent game against New Canaan but could not get the calls nor the bounces and eventually fell 4-2 in a heartbreaker.  Trumbull dropped the third of four games 5-2 as they were outplayed by  the state's top point getter, Ridgefield.

The Eagles kicked off the first game of a lighter stretch with a lack-luster effort against Wilton.  Trumbull's inability to move the puck, refusal to take the body and poor positioning nearly cost them the game as they squeaked out a 3-1 win over the Warriors.

The season winds down with some very winnable games including a tough home match up with Chesire (02/15) and a road game against Immaculate (02/20) which represent Trumbull's last chance for that quality Division I victory that has eluded them this season.  The Eagles are currently 10-4-0.

EAGLES QUALIFY FOR TOURNAMENT!

Posted by Coach Gonzo at Jan 14, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

On Saturday night, the Eagles notched their eighth win of the season and qualified for the CIAC State Hockey Tournament. Trumbull has qualified for tournament play five of the last seven seasons and looks to make their first appearance in the D1 pool under the new playoff format. Their overall record is now 8-1-0.

The Eagles qualified with a come from behind victory over the Greenwich Cardinals.  The offense struggled early on as they tried to break down Greenwich goalie, John Rogers, who was sharp all game. After wasting numerous power play chances, Trumbull found themselves trailing 2-0 going into the final period.  The Cardinals undisciplined play finally caught up with them as the Eagles connected on three consecutive PP goals from Nick Watson, Matt Christoffersen and James Devore.  Dan Miressi closed out the game with an empty netter and two assists.

ALUMNI CHALLENGE

Posted by Coach Gonzo at Jan 3, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The first annual "Alumni Challenge" was a great success. Following Trumbull's 7-0 victory over Masuk, the Eagle and Panther alumni squared off to complete the hockey double header. There was great participation from both teams with over thirty-five former players showing up to skate. The game ended with a shoot-out to break the 4-4 tie. After some great work in net from Trumbull's Rob Humphries ('03) and nifty goals from Masuk's Paul Yovino ('04) and former Eagle, Kevin Shoenthal ('03) the game ultimately ended in a tie. Pictured are former Trumbull Captain, Carl Slavis ('95) who travelled all the way from Philadelphia to skate and Masuk SNIPER (and Trumbull Head Coach) Greg Maxey ('84). imageimage

EAGLES WIN FCIAC CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT

Posted by Coach Gonzo at Dec 28, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
After beating Stamford 5-3 and Wilton 5-1, the Eagles locked up the FCIAC Tier II Christmas Tournament with a 4-2 win over Greenwich.  The victory marked the first time that Trumbull has gotten the best of the Cardinals.

Charlie Ogalin has been rock solid in net for the Eagles and has played a major role in Trumbull's 5-0-0 start.  He currently has a 1.6 goals against average and 94.7 save percentage. The Eagle offense has also been up to speed, scoring 26 goals (from ten different players) in Trumbull's first five games.  Leading the way has been junior, Dan Miressi, with 10 goals and 5 assists.  Miressi notched a hat-trick, as well as an assist, in Trumbull's big win over Greenwich. imageimage
