Posted by Coach Gonzo at Mar 9, 2004 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Trumbull Eagles ended their season in the semi-final game of the CIAC DII State Tournament. North Haven bested Trumbull by a score of 5-3. The Eagles fell behind 4-1 but fought back to make the score 4-3. With the goalie pulled, Trumbull had numerous chances to tie the game before North Haven iced the game with the final, empty net tally. North Haven went on the beat Madison Hand 3-1 in the final to become DII state champs. image
The Trumbull Eagles defeated the Chesire Rams in the second round of the CIAC DII state tournament. The game was decided in OT in front of a packed house at the Wonderland of Ice. Kyle Essary gave the Eagles a one goal lead assisted by Patrick Devore. The second period was all Chesire. The Rams scored three times in the second, the last goal coming with only six seconds remaining. With their backs against the wall, the Trumbull skaters showed great character and determination, answering back with two quick third period goals. Ryan Criscuolo scored in the first twenty-nine seconds assisted by Chris Charland. Two minutes and twenty seconds later, James Devore tipped in a Ryan Criscuolo shot. Both teams had early chances to score in OT. The Chesire goaltender made an unbelievable save on Anthony Criscuolo early. Charlie Ogalin stopped three point blank shots before senior, Allen Mihai ended the game at 12:16 of OT with an unassisted blast that caused the Trumbull fans to erupt. The victory was the Eagles' fifteenth, the most wins ever for a Trumbull ice hockey team. It also advances Trumbull to the DII semi finals and Ingalls Rink (Yale) where they will face the North Haven Indians. image
