Posted by Ruth Stoffel at Apr 16, 2002 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Johnny Zepeda picked his former team mates to tune up on in pitching his best game of the year and notching his first win of the year against two losses, as he went the distance, allowed only two runs on 7 hits, 5 walks and striking out 6. The Maverick defense played flawless ball and when the Warriors did get a couple of runners on Zepeda was able to get that 3rd out. The Maverick's offense was led by Joey Burke, 2 for 3, 4 rbi's and a bases loaded triple; Paul Oseguera's 2nd Home Run of the year in the 3rd with one on, Andrew Nacario's two doubles and 3 runs scored, and rbi doubles by Diehl, Fuller, Chapalone and Stoffel. The Mavs had a total of 14 hits in increasing their record to 3-0 and 16-4 overall.image

Joey Burke and Johnny Zepeda anchored the team defense as Burke had 5 assists and Zepeda 8 put outs. The Mavericks scored 4 runs in the first and 3 in the second to take a commanding lead. Burke was 3 for 3, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's, Casey Sterk was 2 for 3 with 2 triples, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's and Nick Diehl and catcher Matt Ryan each had an rbi triple.
