MAVS HOLD ON TO BEAT EASTLAKE 3-2

The Mavericks played their best defensive game of the year, combined with a strong pitching effort by Will Stoffel, and just enough hitting to beat Eastlake 3-2. La Costa Canyon advances to the Semi-finals of the Lions Classic Division against Avocado League rival San Marcos. The game will be played at 1:00pm on Thursday at Southwestern Community College. Stoffel pitched all seven innings, allowing no hits through 5 innings, and finished up with 1 earned run on 4 hits, 5 strike outs and 4 walks. Stoffel was also credited with the game winning rbi as in the 6th inning Oseguera doubled and then Stoffel doubled to knock in the Mavericks 3rd run. Oseguera had two hits, and an rbi, while Sterk had the other rbi.
Catcher Matt Ryan went 2 for 3 with a double and game winning single to help his brother Tyler Ryan add to his individual pitching record of 3 wins, no losses and 1 save. Brian Brehm pitched a strong 5 and 1/3rd innings, allowing only 3 earned runs on 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 4. Will Stoffel was 2 for 3 with 2 rbi's, and Paul Oseguera and Andrew Nacario each had 2 hits. In the bottom of the 6th trailing 5-2, Sterk started with a one out single, Burke walked, Chapalone singled to right, Oseguera doubled to left and Stoffel singled to tie the game at 5-5. With two outs Matt Ryan singled to score Oseguera for the winning run. In 1 and 2/3rds innings of relief work Tyler Ryan allowed no runs, no hits, struck out 2 and walked only 1.

SILVERADO BEATS MAVERICKS 8-4

In the first game of the Lions Tournament T. Coon of Silverado High School in Las Vegas, Nevada pitched a complete game, allowing only 4 runs on 6 hits and striking out 11; while hitting two doubles and knocking in 3 runs. The Mavericks Chris Fuller hit a bases loaded double for 3 rbi's and Tyler Ryan pitched well in relief,going the final 2 and 1/3rd innnings, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out 5 of the 7 batters he faced. Nick Diehl had one double and one rbi while Paul Oseguera was 2 for 3. Silverado is 1-0 and LCC is 0-1 in pool play.

POWAY EDGES MAVERICKS IN EXTRA INNINGS 4-3

Poway took advantage of an infield error to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the 7th and then pushed across an unearned run in the top of the 9th to edge the Mavericks 4-3. Will Stoffel pitched 6 and 1/3 innings, yielding one earned run, while striking out 7, walking 3 and scattering 7 hits. Lonergan led Poway with two hits and 3 runs batted in. Conradi picked up his 3rd win against no losses while Brehm took the hard luck loss(1-1). In the 1st inning Nacario singled, scored on Sterk's single and Burke singled to move Sterk to third where he scored on the back end of a double steal. In the 5th Burke was hit by a pitch, stole 2nd and scored on Chapalone's rbi double for a 3-0 lead.

MAVERICKS RALLY IN 7TH TO BEAT VISTA 5-4

The Mavericks rallied with five runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to beat Vista 5-4. Brian Brehm in relief of Tyler Ryan picked up the win. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th Casey Sterk drove home Chris Fuller with the winning run. Earlier in the inning Eddie Signaigo helped the rally on a hard hit ground ball with a throwing error that allowed Stoffel and Hartman to score.
