News and Announcements

Guys, it's just not supposed to be this easy. In their first game of the Section 3 tournament, Kyle Chapman defeated Greater Sugar Land 13-1 Sunday night at it's own field. KC excelled in every phase of the game totally outplaying a good GSL team, and continued to dominate every team they have played. KC's pitching has been excellent through out, allowing only four runs in the four games they have played---1 run in each game. Their hitting has also been very good---they got 9 hits in this game, but they have taken advantage of every walk, hit by pitch, and error the opposition has made. They have now scored 47 runs in the four games they have played. They have played excellent defense making only one error tonight. Speedy Braylon Moore opened the game for KC with a gapper to right center field for a triple, and when the throw was wide at third base, he continued home to score the first run of the game. After one out, Alex Atherton singled sharply to left field, went to third base on two wild pitches, and then scored on a fly ball to right field by Ben Silberman. Although the GSL rightfielder made an excellent throw, Atherton slid under the tag for the second run of the inning. As it turned out, that was all KC needed. Ross Haggard pitched the first two innings for KC. He faced six batters striking out five and allowing no one to reach base. When he left the game, KC had a 10-0 lead. Eddrick Gilmore followed Haggard on the mound and pitched two innings. He allowed 1 run, 2 hits, 4 walks, and also struck out 5 batters. Jeremy Gould pitched the fifth inning facing only 4 batters, walking 1 and striking out 3. KC's pitchers struck out 13 of the 15 outs for GSL. GSL pitchers struck out 5 KC batters. Alex Atherton and Peter Marshall both went 2 for 2 for KC, Braylon Moore, Jeremy Gould, Nick Wills, Raymond Redding, and Ross Haggard each had 1 hit. Atherton had 3 RBI's for KC, Gould had 2, and Silberman, Wills, Marshall, Redding, and Gilmore each had 1 RBI. In the first game of the Section tournament, League City defeated LaPorte 6-3 in a game that went 10 innings. LaPorte and GSL will play in a loser's bracket game tomorrow (Monday) at 6:00 p.m. with the loser being eliminated. KC and League City will play in the winner's bracket game scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. The winner between KC and League City will need only one more win to claim the Section 3 title and advance to the Region Tournament in Port Neches. KC 14y/o Wins First Game in District 1

Kyle Chapman's 14-year old team defeated a good Brazos Valley team 6-1 on Saturday to advance in the District 1 double elimination tournament in Magnolia. The strong KC pitching of Ross Haggard and Eddrick Gilmore shut down the few opportunities Magnolia had to score. The lone run Brazos Valley scored was unearned. Haggard pitched the first five innings striking out 7 batters and Gilmore pitched the last two innings striking out 3. The duo limited Brazos Valley to only 3 hits while KC collected 11 hits.
Kyle Chapman defeated host Montgomery County 14-1 Sunday evening to move within one win of the District 1 championship. They will play Monday, July 15th at 8:30 p.m. and will win the District 1 championship if they win the game. KC again received strong pitching from Eddrick Gilmore, Jeremy Gould, and Alex Atherton limiting Montgomery County to one unearned run. KC's pitchers have yet to yield an earned run in the tournament. Gilmore, who pitched two strong innings Saturday, started for KC and pitched the first three innings allowing no hits and striking out five. Gould pitched the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings allowing two hits and striking out 5. Atherton pitched the seventh inning, giving up no hits, and striking out 2. KC scored five of their runs in the top of the 7th inning to dash any hopes that Montgomery County had. In the 7th inning, Ray Redding hit a two-run home run, Nick Wills had a triple, and Ross Haggard and Jeremy Gould added doubles. In addition to the strong pitching and hitting, KC played errorless ball with Braylon Moore and Ryan Swindell making outstanding plays in the field. KC is now the only undefeated team in the tournament. If they don't win Monday, they will return to play on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for the championship. Their Monday opponent will be the team that wins Monday's 6:00 p.m. game--------probably a rematch with Brazos Valley, who they beat Friday 6-1. This is an excellent team and deserves the support of each of us. See you in Magnolia Monday. 13-Year old News: NASA was the winner in the Greater Houston area for the 13-year old championship, and Pasadena was the second place team. Both teams are in Austin to play in the state tournament, and both teams won their first game by the 10-run rule. Brent Patterson Directions to the Montgomery County Field: Take Loop 610 to Hwy 290.
