LONG BEACH, CA - In his final race in the States before moving back to Switzerland for a "real job" with Ovalteen (no he's not really getting deported), Ian Pyott won the Long Beach Sprint Triathlon convincingly for the 3rd straight year. He was nearly 2:00 ahead of the next finisher, and was able to comfortably "float" the run after schooling the field on the bike. Ian emerged from the water only in 4th place, partially due to wearing Gabriel Steinman's oversized borrowed wetsuit, since he left his suit in Switzerland on his last visit. But he was easily within striking distance and used his "Houdini" fast transition to leave first out on the bike. Coming off the bike he was nearly 3 minutes ahead of the next athlete to come in.

Other Multisports OC and Nova athletes to have great days included Cameron Eckman who finished 4th overall at just a shade over an hour (1:00:07),  who finished Scott Spence  6th overall  Dan Graham, Mike McNeill (3rd in Clydesdale)

Others to participate included Cathy, Ryan & Shawn Dolan,

New team record setters included Kevin Hayden and Nicci Fusaro, breaking Jeff Ramos record for missing the most races entered in a season. Others to miss the start line due to injury, burn-out or afraid to enter the less than pristine water included Kerry Deputy, Art Rice, & Emily Goldstein. Patrick Pollock used the least amount of effort to finish 11th in his age group with a 55 year old DH.

ZUMA BEACH, CA - TOYOTA ONE was the appropriately named Mixed Relay team of Michele Brown (Toyota employee), secret Swiss racing weapon Ian Pyott, and Coach Michael Collins (Real Toyota Tundra Owner commercial guy). They combined to win the Mixed Relay Category in 1:20:24, and had the second fastest overall relay time behind the all Male team title sponsor Nautica put together (1:19:22).

Michele led off the relay to do swim despite a swollen and weak ankle from a recent twist and fall. She wrapped it up before the race, so she could cover the significant distance to hand off the timing chip to Ian Pyott who smoked one the fastest overall bike splits of the day averaging 25.9 MPH for the hilly 18 mile course (almost as fast as a Prius). After completing the fastest Transition 2 relay exchange split of day (:55 seconds), Michael Collins took off to run the 2nd fastest Relay run time of the day (23:16) averaging 5:49 mile pace for the 4 mile course.

The Toyota One Relay won the Mixed Category by a whopping 9 minutes and 12 seconds.

Multisports OC Coach Michael Collins offers professional bike fitting and posture evaluations which include video taping and analysis. The cost is $80 an hour (an average fit takes betwen 1-1/2 to 2 hours).

"I feel a good bike fit involves more than just moving the seat and bars around with a rider going easy on a stationary trainer. It's important to look at an athletes position under load and evaluate their posture on the bike, power output and comfort for more than just a few minutes of riding. Also, seat height can be evaluated better by using video analysis to see what the natural angles of the rider are when they are really riding."

"Since I do not work at a bike shop, so I have no vested interest in whether an athlete buys new equipment or not. I try to get them to the most opitmal position possible with what they have, and if that is not possible explain why they can't and what changes need to made to their equipment (stem length, type of aero bars or saddle, centermount vs laid back seat post, or just too big or small of frame to achieve a safe and comfortable fit)."
