ONLINE REGISTRATION & FORMS

Posted by Michael Collins at Nov 26, 2012 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Parents are encouraged to fill out the ALDERWOOD RUN CLUB ONLINE REGISTRATION (hosted by Multisports Orange County) to save time at the Info meeting especially for our data entry volunteers. This also cuts down on entry errors which is a serious problem for email addresses and emergency contact phone numbers. You will need to print your confirmation page and bring it to the school with your check. (We are currently not able to take online payments for the program)

Or you can download, print, and fill out the Paper Registration Forms HERE.

These forms are due at the Running Club Info Meeting.

PARENT SUPPORT & VOLUNTEERING

Posted by Michael Collins at Nov 25, 2012 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

 PARENT SUPPORT & VOLUNTEERING

MODELING is one of the best ways to teach your kids. We would like to encourage all parents to set the example for their kids by exercising daily, and making healthy nutrition decisions. Parents are welcome to participate with their kids in the weekly practices. Remember, 6 year old and younger participants are REQUIRED to have a parent attend each session (so why NOT do it instead of sitting on a bench while your kids get are getting fit). Your kids will work harder if they are competing against adults! Also, we encourage the adults to enter the monthly races (usually 5k, 10k, or ½ Marathon distances for adults)

VOLUNTEERING & PARTICIPATION

The coaches will need additional help at practices and at races to help with running the exercises and games, recording times, video taping, and being supportive out on the course. Checking athletes in and out at each practice and races as well as snacks and rewards distribution are critical areas that we need support. If the coaches need to do this then it will take away from practice time and instruction.

We are asking the parents of each participant to volunteer at 2 or more practices or races over the course of the program. Sign-up sheets will be available at the Program Information Meetings as well as at the First Day of practice on Thursday Jan. 17, 2012.

Below are some details on the Volunteer Tasks needed and this area will be updated regularly with additional details and assignments available.

PRACTICE ROUTINE

Immediately after school runners should change into their running uniform, go to the restroom if needed, and get a drink of water, then report to the check-in area at the lunch benches.

K-3rd Graders should be dressed and checked in by 2:30pm. Practice will end at 3:15pm

4th-6th Graders should be dresses and checked in by 3pm. Practice will end at 4:00pm

If your child will not be attending practice due to illness or some other conflict, please send a text or email to the program coordinator letting them know your child will not be able to attend. Please include the full name of the student and the date they will not be there.

The program is designed to be a progression, must like with topics in school, so if kids miss many sessions they will fall behind and not understand some of the technique progressions and exercises.

Parents should arrive by the end of practice to checkout their children unless they have turned in the release form allowing their kids to walk home or leave with other specified people.

If the weather may be very bad due to rain or other extreme conditions practice may be canceled. If there is a threat of bad weather please check your email and phone messages or text to see if it was canceled. Whenever, possible we still hold practice.

We recommend that all participants in the running program wear lightweight running shoes to all practices and races. We will be teaching them to run with good running technique including landing on the ball of the foot and using 90+ cadence. (fast foot speed). This is difficult to do in heavy, non-running shoes.

We will be offering some special shoes fitting and discount purchase days at local retailers.

* Special Shoe Fitting and Discount Day at RoadRunner Sports, Laguna Hills

Monday, January 14, 2013. 3pm-8pm. Free pizza at 6:30pm. Coach Michael Collins will give a brief presentation at 7pm on the Running Program & Training, Racing, & Technique Tips.

Athletes and parents get up to 10-25% off on their purchases that evening as well as raise money for the team just for showing up! Our goal is to get a total of 100+ athletes/parents to the event, so PLEASE come support the program. The store will have extra quanities of youth size running shoes and will be able to fit your kids properly in the right shoes (a VERY CRITICAL element when starting a running program)
