The Trumbull Eagles will retain the Coach Eddy Cup for another season as they defeated cross town rival, St Josephs, by a score of 2-1. Both schools were well represented by their fans and the rink was rocking.

It was hard fought victory with some physical play from both teams. SJ quickly got on the board, converting a turnover in the first fifty seconds but the Eagles fought back. Senior, Zach Jager got Trumbull on the board in the first and Peter Antoniou (sr) got the game winner on a nice passing play with linemate, Giancarlo Montonaro (jr). Adam Guttman made 37 saves allowing the Eagles to close out the Cadets. When the Eagles tired, Guttman stayed strong making one big save after another, earning himself the “Player of the Game” by CTHS Hockey.

The rivalry continues… Miss you, Coach Eddy!

This great hockey rivalry continues tonight 6:30pm at The Shelton Rinks as Trumbull hosts St Joe’s in defense of last year’s cup win.

The Trumbull Eagles enter the game with a 7-4-1 record and sit atop the CIAC D2 standings. The Cadets are 3-8-0 but are competing with the CIAC’s top D1 programs. It should be a great match up… as always.

In a light week of games (and scoring) for the Eagles, our Player of the Week focuses on defense. Senior, Zach Jager has been the leader of a strong Trumbull blue line. Jager has steadily improved due to his hard work and dedication to the game. He is an extremely smart player that sees the ice well, moves the puck cleanly and not only defends but adds offense. The co-captain currently leads all defensemen with 7 points (1g / 6a) and is tied for 5th in team scoring.

The Trumbull Eagles are off to a good start in 2021-2022. Early in the season, they traveled to New Hampshire for the Heuchling Swift Tournament and left with a championship trophy.

The Trumbull Eagles are 7-3-1 and currently sit 4th in the CIAC standings behind Lyman Hall, Sheehan and Wethersfield. Of their three losses, two came at the hands of FCIAC D1 opponents.

HNIB has them ranked 4th in D2 behind Lyman Hall, Sheehan and East Haven.

The Trumbull skaters still have some challenging games on the schedule that will define their season. They have three more D1 games including St Joe’s and the Coach Eddy Cup. It will be important for them to compete in these games and grab some D1 bonus points. They also have two more games with Westhill/Stamford that will determine FCIAC tournament seeding.

GO EAGLES!

Senior, Peter Antoniou is our Player of the Week as we hit the half way mark of the season. The left wing scored two goals and assisted on a third in Trumbull’s 4-1 win over Branford earning him the CTHS Hockey “Player of the Game”. Antoniou added an assist in the Eagles hard fought 2-3 loss to the D1 Greenwich Cardinals.

Antoniou has good speed, is shifty with the puck and comes to play every game. The Co-Captain is currently second in goals with 11, second in points with 18, near the top in hits and leads the team with 3 game winning goals.
