Lions take two of three from Bulldogs

Posted by Roger Peterson at Oct 7, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The Canton Lions played three strong Brighton Bulldog teams in unseasonably hot weather.  Both the JV and Varsity were able to down the Bulldogs, with the Freshmen dropping a close contest.  More game detail will be posted soon.

The Varsity downed the undefeated Bulldogs 26-6.  The Lions started the game with a 18 play touchdown scoring drive that consumed nearly the entire first quarter.  Touchdowns were scored by Marcus Houston and Kevin Buford with Clay Behrman and Blake Owens contributing with a strong running attack.  The defense played very strong in the heat holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the first half.

The Canton Lions JV squad flexed its "Offensive Muscle" by defeating the Brighton Bulldogs 59-38. The Lions first offensive play from scrimmage was a 50 yard touchdown run by Malcolm Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth went on to score four more rushing touchdowns for the day. In addition, Jordan Ciciotti and Westen Price contributed with one rushing touchdown each. A total of seven rushing touchdowns were scored behind the dominant offensive line blocking of Luke Denzer, Daniel Tidwell, Danny Stropes, Collin Hall, and Daniel Jipping. Showing versatility, the Lions went to the air with a touchdown pass from Jamal Eiland to Scott Gring. Also, Lucas Bunting added five PATs for the day. Defensive standouts were Kyle Durham, Nathan Emminger, Brandon Lee, and Daniel Jipping. Luke Denzer forced a fumble, and Jamal Eiland blocked a PAT.

The Canton Lions Freshmen Team suffered their first setback of the season with a hard fought 14-6 loss to the Brighton Bulldogs. The Lions were able to take an early 6-0 lead on a touchdown run from Daniel Kilgore, but were held down by the Brighton defense the rest of the way. The Lions did receive some strong running from Allante' Wheeler and solid blocking from Daniel Paulot, Shane Raymond, and Jake Stropes.

A hard hitting game was played by the Jr. Freshman team. The offense was led by strong quarterback play of Jacob McCall who connected with Mitchell McKenzie on a long pass play. The offense was also led by strong blocking from Trevor LaPere and Guido Constantino. The defense was paced by strong efforts from Carter Kahl, Sean Lee, and Jason Arnold, who returned a Bulldog fumble for a touchdown.
