Lions sweep Redford Rangers!

Posted by Roger Peterson on Oct 21 2007 at 05:00PM PDT

The Canton Lions had a successful day with all three of our squads winning big at Redford.  These were key divisional wins that will move our teams closer to a possible playoff berth.  More details to be posted soon.

The Canton Lions Varsity started got back on track with a 32-12 victory against the Redford Rangers.  The Lions got behind early but Marcus Houston tied the score with a long touchdown run.  The Rangers again went on top but the Lions answered again when Clay Behrman intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown.  The Lions then took the lead on their next possession with a long touchdown run by William Askew.  In the second half Behrman and Askew scored again for the Lions to put the game away.  Corey Watkins, Josh Peterson and Jordan Smith had stellar performances on both sides of the ball.  The Lions also had interceptions by Michael Boes, Kevin Buford, and Jordan Smith.

The Canton Lions Freshmen Football Team clinched their seventh consecutive postseason appearance with a 26-6 win over the Redford Rangers. The Lions got on the scoreboard first when Chuckie Turfe burst through the center of the Redford defense for a 15 yard run for a touchdown. Following a change of possession the Lions defense capitalized on a Redford miscue as Jake Stropes jumped on a errant punt snap for a Touchdown. The Lions opened the second half of play with a 65 yard kick off return for score by Luke Edwards. Cordell Gibson finished the scoring for the Lions with a 48 yard run in the third quarter to extend the lead to 26-0. The Lions received excellent running from Antonio Dumas, Allante' Wheeler, Jakob Wickens, and Robert Guajardo. The defense was led by Daniel Kilgore, Mason Robichaud, Austin fisher, and Shaw Lyall.

The Jr. Freshman had a strong defensive, hard hitting effort lead by Devin Farmer, Jacob Miller, Mason Kopchia, Carter Kahl, Mitchell McKenzie, and Noah Brown. The offense was paced by solid running from Jason Arnold and Kyle Burnette, who received great blocking from Kyle Amick, Jeffrey Johnson, and Scottlar Chakarbarty.
