Canton Lions Football and Cheerleading

The Canton Lions took two of three games from the Dearborn Heights Redskins this last Sunday.  Our Junior Freshmen started the day off, playing the Lakes Area Hawks.

The Canton Lions Varsity suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the undefeated Dearborn Heights Redskins, 13-12.  The Redskins scored on the second play from scrimmage and then again on a punt return in the second quarter to jump out to a 13-0 halftime lead.  The Lions roared back in the second half with touchdowns by Clay Behrman and Kevin Buford.  The Lions marched to the Redskins 12 yard line in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over and did not score.  The Lions got strong defensive play from William Askew, Farris Abraham, DJ McMillian, Jordan Smith and Marcus Houston.  Offensively the Lions were led by Kyle Dexter, Ian Green, and Eric Jipping. 

The Canton Lions JV squad defeated the Dearborn Heights Redskins 42-0. The offensive scoring began on the first offensive possesion with a 42 yard touchdown run by Jamal Eiland. Eiland later added another 5 yard touchdown run. Other offensive contributers included a 56 yard touchdown pass from Devin Slominski to Luke Denzer. Rushing touchdowns were also scored by Malcolm Hollingsworth, Westen Price, and Tyler Searls. Kenny Arnold caught two PAT passes, and Lucas Bunting added two PAT kicks. Paving the way for the Offense, excellent blocking skills were displayed by Alex Smith, Andrew Hunt, Cody Sirls, Benjamin Slater, Dillon Farmer, and Michael San Millan. Defensively, the shutout was preserved by key plays from Evan Thomas, Brandon Lee, Danny Stropes, Jordan Ciciotti (pass interception), Kyle Durham (pass interception), Nathan Emmiger, Tyler Langer, and Travis McCall.

The Canton Lions Freshmen team returned to their winning ways with an impressive 33-18 victory over the Dearborn Heights Redskins. The Lions Defense was suffocating, forcing 4 fumbles and intercepting 3 passes. The Lions jumped on the board early when Chuckie Turfe stripped the ball from the opposing quarterback and returned it for a touchdown. Jake Stropes then recovered an errant punt snap in the end zone for the second touchdown of the game. The Lions were able to get their offense going and proceeded to score touchdowns on their next three possessions on rout to a 33-6 lead to start the final quarter. The Lions received outstanding defensive play from Ty Jasman, Dante' Pruitt, Robert Guajardo, and Mason Robichaud. The Lions offense was led by Luke Edwards, Daniel Kilgore, and Cordell Gibson, who each scored touchdowns in the victory.

The Jr. Freshman Lions offense was paced by Kyle Burnette and Noah Brown, who connected on two long pass plays. Strong blocking was provided offensively by George Jablonski and Jack Underwood. The hard hitting defense was led by Scottlar Chakarbarty, Spencer Brown, Ethan Balogh, and Steven Thomas.

The Canton Lions football teams downed the Westland Meteors in our 2007 Homecoming games. This was another important divisional sweep for the Lions, moving all our teams records to 4-0. 

The Varsity came from behind to beat the Westland Meteors.  The Meteors got on the board first but the Lions came roaring back with 19 unanswered points to take a 19-7 halftime lead.  The Meteors scored first in the second half but the Lions answered with two touchdowns of their own.  The Meteors scored late to make the final score 35-21.  Marcus Houston tallied four touchdowns while Kevin Buford had a touchdown and two interceptions.  William Askew kicked two extra points, caused a fumble and had four tackles in the Meteor backfield.  Also turning in a strong performance was Michael Boes, Clay Behrman, and Nick Weber.      

The JV squad continued their winning ways by overpowering the Westland Meteors 35-0. The scoring on offense displayed a balanced attack, with rushing touchdowns scored by Malcolm Hollingsworth, Jamarl Eiland, Collin Hall, and Tyler Searls. In addition, the Lions went to the air with a touchdown pass from Quarterback Devin Slominski to Tightend Scott Gring. Lucas Bunting added (two) PAT kicks, and Westen Price contributed an extra point run. Defensively, standouts were Luke Denzer (forced fumble), Jamarl Eiland (fumble recovery), Kenny Arnold, Westen Price, Nathan Emminger (sack), Evan Thomas (interception), Daniel Tidwell, and Daniel Jipping (caused fumble).

The Freshmen improved their record with an impressive 39-13 victory over the Westland Meteors. The Lions defense was dominant while forcing 5 fumbles and recovering 3 including one for a Touchdown by Chuckie Turfe. The offense was led on the ground by excellent blocking from Eric Daniels, Alex Petrarca, James Bolding, Jacob Blaylock and Mason Robichaud. The running attack was paced by Daniel Kilgore, Allante' Wheeler, Cordell Gibson and Damarcus Kaigler. Shane Raymond, Austin Fisher, Forrest Hall, and Jake Stropes also played stand out defensive games for the Lions.

The Jr. Freshman had a strong defensive, hard hitting effort lead by Jacob Miller, Steven Thomas, Kyle Amick, Ethan Balogh, and Connor Danaher.  The Lions defense allowed very few plays of positive yardage by the Meteors throughout the game.   The offense had a strong effort lead by the blocking of Mason Kopchia, Jeffrey Johnson, and Noah Brown while opening big holes for the Lions running backs.
