NCLL Angel Program

Posted by William Jarquin at Dec 9, 2013 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The NCLL Angel Program

In 2008, the Banducci Family made a large donation to the league in honor of their late husband & father Pete Banducci.  He was tragically stricken with the disease ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), more commonly referred to as “Lou Gerhig’s Disease”.

Due in large part to this generous contribution, NCLL was able build our batting cages.  The idea for this contribution came from Pete himself, as he wanted to provide a way for his family to give their support to the league they so loved and enjoyed.

To honor the generosity of Pete and the Banducci Family, NCLL made a donation to Ride for Life
http://www.rideforlife.com/, an organization that raises money, assists in ALS research for finding a cure, and supports families that have been touched by this horrible disease.  With this donation, Ride for Life supplied us with Angel Pins.

We will be giving these Angel Pins to people in NCLL who display extra effort or show special compassion here during the season. This will be a way for us to celebrate the volunteer spirit that NCLL is known for, and allow us to honor Pete as the very special person who stepped up in such a big way for all the players who play in this league.

Nominate your special NCLL Angel Today!

Look for the Angel Nomination Box in the Snack Shack and nominate someone you think displays extra effort or shows special compassion during the season.  From these nominations, the NCLL Angel Recipients Committee will review the nominees and select those individuals whose actions demonstrate the spirit of the NCLL Angel Program.  NCLL Angels will receive an Angel Pin, be recognized on the NCLL website (see below) and will be added to the list of NCLL Angels on the bulletin board by the Snack Shack with a description of why they were selected.

Tips for Tryouts

Posted by Shelly Miyasato at Dec 31, 2012 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

1) Start throwing the ball NOW and swing the bat every day!

2) Know your age group try-out time and get there early (enough to park, sign in, and warm up)

3) Show up “ready to play”…baseball or loose fit clothing, cleats, hat, and glove (true players always have their own ball in their glove)

4) Bring a Little League bat and helmet if you want to use your own

5) Go to the Snack Shack to sign in and get your number

6) Head straight to the tryout dugout and show the dugout manager that you’ve arrived (wait till your age group is called to enter the dugout)

7) Take time to warm up…grab a friend and play catch (select a safe place/direction to throw)

8) No walking on the baseball field, only hustling…on the field, off the field, for the ball, on the bases…

9) Listen carefully to what you’re being asked to do and do it to the best of your ability

10) Remember, no one bats 1000 or has zero errors so play hard, show your love of the game, and have fun!

NCLL, in conjunction with Little League International, has opened a new division of play for your age group. The Intermediate (50/70) Division has been created to give players an opportunity to compete at a higher level while transitioning from the 60-foot Little League diamond to the pro-size 90-foot field. The division gets its name from the 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths.

In addition to the added distances, the playing rules will be more like professional baseball, including leadoffs, pickoffs, and the use of larger diameter bat barrels. Pitch counts will be based upon the age of the pitcher and accepted standards for nearly all youth baseball programs. Other organizational and playing rules will be similar to Little League’s Junior Division.

The number of teams and roster size will be determined by the NCLL board. An interleague game schedule of approximately 10-12 games will be established with other leagues within District 14 . Games will be played on Sundays and may include a weekday game. The season ends with an All-star team playing in a post-season tournament.

During this inaugural season, in order to prevent the dilution of the existing playing divisions, players must also participate on a Major or Junior Division NCLL team. This will provide players a chance to compete at a higher level while still being able to play with their school and neighborhood friends.
