GIRLS, BOYS SWEEP HENLOPEN MEET CHAMPIONSHIPS

Posted by Czar Bloom at Nov 6, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

A big congratulations go out to the MHSCC boys & girls who swept the Henlopen Meet Championships for the first time in school history Saturday at Killens Pond State Park. The boys' 30 points stunned runner-up CR by 22 points, while the girls teamed up for 45 points to rally for a close 10-point win over Sussex Tech. Both CR and Tech had handed the Bucs' their only loss during the regular season.

Carl Richardson won the school's second individual Henlopen title ever -- successfully defending Patrick Helmick's from last season -- to lead a great pack that saw Steve Eshelman (3rd), Taiwan Savage (6th) and Mike Doughty (7th) each make the all-conference first team.  Josh Johnson came up with a HUGE career-best of 18:03 to place 13th, make the second team and secure the boys' title. Sophomore Henry Phalen reached the Bloom record list and earned honorable mention with an 18:37.

For the girls, Molly Bliss (3rd) and Alexis Groce (5th) cruised to first-team finishes, while Kelsey Cabrera finished 8th overall as the top Henlopen freshman. Stefanie Clendaniel (13th), Shaimae Sefiane (16th) and Amy Wilson (21st) ran strong to reach all-conference honors.

Both junior varsity squads also swept away first-place team finishes as well. Jeremy Harper and Jeremy Morgan earned Top 10 medals and spots on the Bloom Top 10 freshmen list, while Tyesha Bowman, Lydia Cole, Maria Medlarz, Taylor Hoey, Sarah Holbruner and Kristen Schulze scored medals for the JV girls.

Mia Fabres-Parker, Shekinah Brown, Shanice Butler and Emily Marconi finished the season with career-bests.
