After a solid freshman track season, Firch decided to give cross country a try this fall and has already stepped onto the varsity after a pair of great races this week. He surged to the finish on Wednesday with a 20:38 and then followed that up with a stellar 19:57 at White Clay Creek on Friday, just missing a Top 10 medal and finishing as the team’s No.6 man.

Cates, a four-year veteran, has made sure to start her final season with her best foot forward as she has already jumped under the 30 barrier with a 29:55 Friday at hilly White Clay Creek State Park. With each race this week, she shaved over a minute off her previous season best after running a 31:49 Wednesday at home versus Woodbridge.
