During his first two seasons, Phalen has worked hard to chase down the team’s front-running group. Steady cross country and track seasons have him poised for a junior breakout. Already Phalen has gained an early advantage in 2011 as the only MHSCCer to attend practice each day during the preseason. Solid preseason trials signal race-season success.

After a solid rookie season, Fitzgerald-Lorah has started off on the right foot in 2011 by consistently working hard during the preseason. Despite some nagging soreness in her foot, she routinely attended preseason practice and knocked out hard-fought time trials, setting herself up for a potential sophomore surge.

Maloney, a three-year veteran, put forth a solid effort during the preseason to open the season on the team’s varsity. His 20:23 at Saturday’s Lake Forest Invitational secured the No. 7 spot on a very deep lineup. His experience and dedicated efforts appear to be the perfect ingredient to help shape the team’s chemistry for 2011.

Schulze, in her second season, has made steady progress on the track and the trail since joining last fall. This season, she has started very strong with a consistent preseason effort which helped her reap the benefits already in the 2011 race season as she ran her way onto the varsity seven with a nice 26:38 at the Lake Forest Invitational Saturday at Killens.
