Posted by Ray Flaherty at Oct 19, 2000 12:45PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Despite a strong first half that saw them control play Central led only 1-0 at the break. Joe Mead's Header at the 26 minute mark was the lone Raider goal to be scored that night. Chelmsford roared back ony 24 seconds into the second half as Dan Morais took the ball down the left side all alone and launched a lazer shot to the inside post high to beat John McGinness and sent the Raiders home frustrated with a 1-1 tie. Earlier in the day Lowell had beaten previouly undefeated Dracut in a crucial MVC game to up their record to 8-2-1 and 17 points, Central needed a tie to stay even with Lowell with an identical 8-2-1 league record. Andover Nips Central 2-1

Posted by Ray Flaherty at Oct 12, 2000 1:08PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Central's Raiders were unlucky and Andover earned a hard fought 2-1 win at Andover. Rumor has it that this was Coach Amundsen's 300th victory. Andover scored midway thru the first half when Josh Gagnon deflected a goal in off a corner kick. The referees stated it was an own goal but that he was closest to it. Central tied it up when Steve Perry put one past Dan Bellacqua ti tie ist at the 38 minute mark of the first half. Joe Mead was given the assist on the Perry goal. In a back and forth second half that saw both teams get great chances to score Andover was able to break out and score at the 20 minute mark when Josh Gagnon just beat John McGinness to his left. Central is now 8-2 in the MVC and 10-3-1 overall. With this win Andover is now 5-3-2 in the MVC. Central plays Malden Catholic on Saturday at 2 PM at Greater Lawrence Tech. image

Steve Perry had a day to remember. he scored three goals to lead the Raiders to a 3-0 win over Billerica, the MVC small school leader. Perry scored early (3min)in the first half on a nice feed by Joe Mead. After a tough first half the central squad scored at the 7 minute mark of the second half when Jeff Gannon led Steve perry with a nice pass for his second goal. The final goal was not so easy, after taking a pass from Tim Woitkun, Perry worked his way past two defenders to tuck in his final score. John McGinness earned his 6th shutout of the season. The defense continues to improve. Led by Justin Waitt, who has stepped up his game big time this year, and Matt Moccia, who continues his solid performances, the Raiders have given up the fewest goals in the league this season. The two Tims, Bourque and Woitkun, continue to provide outstanding deefense on the outside while also giving us some solid offensive punch from the back. Our Midfield has been amazing with such solid efforts from center middies Jon Kasper and Jeff Gannon and continued punch from the outside by Joe Mead and Mike Casale. Probably our biggest surprise of the year is the job that our forwards have done putting the ball in the net. We are glad that Steve Perry decided to kick goals in rather that putt out for the fall. Jay Rourke has been our all around man as he has served up some great balls from both midfield and the forward position. The Raiders take on an improving Andover squad on Thursday, October 12 at 7:30 at Lovely Field in Andover.image
