The junior Raiders played an exciting game at Methuen on Saturday. Leading 1-0 the Raiders watched as Methuen scored 4 unanswered goals to lead 4-1. Central rallied and tied the score at 4 only to see Methuen go up once again 5-4. A late goal evened the game at five and sent everyone home talking about this one. Chris Carrozza had a game for himself scoring several goals. Ben Stillwell played well in net making several tough saves.image
Central's journey continues as they score two second half goals to beat a determined Chelmsford squad. Jon Kasper and Steve Perry scored at the 22 minute and 29 minute mark of the second half to put the Raiders up to stay 2-0. Steve also got the assist on Jon's goal while Justin Waitt got the assist on Perry's goal. Check out the video below by clicking on it.....hope you enjoy it....we do. Central's midfield played well despite missing Mike Casale to injury. Jon Kasper and Jeff Gannon combined many penetrating passes to keep Chelmsford back on it's heels all evening. Jay Rourke and Joe Mead were solid on the outside combining good offensive runs and defensive recoveries. Defensively Tim Woitkun, Justin Waitt, Tim Bourque, and Matt Moccia have proven to be a solid defensive unit. Click on the video below to enjoy some vintage Central soccer.image

Globe Ranks Raiders In Top 20 Preseason Poll

Posted by Ray Flaherty at Sep 13, 2000 12:01AM PDT ( 0 Comments )
For the first time in Central soccer history the Raiders have been ranked by the Globe in their preseason poll. Ranked at number 20 the team that returns 9 starters has set some lofty goals for itself. As last season ended, the team, which had not been ranked all season, remarkably was ranked number 4. Their run at the Division I Morth title had given them the respectability they had earned with wins over Medford, highly ranked Beverly, MVC rival Andover and an eventual loss in the final 1-0 to Newton North. The highest a Central team had ever been ranked was number 1 during the '89 season. At that time they were 12-0-1. The low ranking this season suits them just fine as they would rather let their play dictate their finish. As Captains Tim Woitkun and Justin Waitt said when they saw the ranking, "Call them and tell them we don't belong there yet, we gotta earn it!"
