The JV B team was victorious with a big 5-3 win over Malden Catholic last Friday. Methuen's Sean Lebrun scored three goals for the Raiders while Matt Guessetto got the win in goal. In what should be a busy week for the B team as they play again on Monday, September 25th vs Andover at Andover.
In an early season big game the Central Catholic Raiders defeated the Lowell High School Red Raiders 2-1 on two goals by Steve Perry. Lowell High School , who came into this game undefeated with a 4-0-2 record overall and 2-0-1 in MVC action, was in the hole early as Central scored in the first thirty seconds only to have it called back for offsides. Central rebounded with its first goal on a beautiful bit of team play to go up 1-0 in the 7th minute. Tim Woitkun threw the ball in to Jeff Gannon who flicked it on to Perry's foot for the goal. Lowell scored the tieing goal six minutes into the second half as Giannini flicked in a beautiful header. Central responded with some solid play that resulted in the game winner being scored when Perry took a nice pass from Mike Casale into the open field and beat the Lowell goalie with the game winner. John McGinness was in net for the Wallace boys as he came up big early in the game with two terrific stops on point blank shots. This was John's fourth win in net. The MVC Large School Division is a real horse race as Central(3-1) and Dracut (2-0-2) are in a tie for first with six points each while Lowell(2-1-1) has five in thrid, Chelmsford (1-3) has two and Andover(0-3-1) has one to round out the division. Central next plays a non-conference game with Haverhill at Haverhill Stadium on Tuesday, September 26 at 7 PM. Haverhill's outstanding Sophomore Marin has lit up the nets with 13 goals in his first 5 games with Haverhill, and should give the Central defenders all they can handle. image

In a rematch of last years first round state tournament game that the Raiders won 2-0 Medford's Mustangs earned a bit of revenge with a solid 3-1 victory. Two early goals coupled with a goal that was called back for the Raiders sealed the victory for Medford. A solid bit of goal tending and some stepped up defense and offense gave the Raiders several excellent opportunities to get back in the game early in the second half. However, Medford scored off a defensive deflection to go up 3-0 midway through the second half. A late goal by Matt Moccia, assisted by Joe Mead, was all the offense that produced a goal allday despite some excellent set-up and chances. Central takes on undefeated Lowell (3-0-2) on Friday at Greater Lawrence Tech at 3:30 PM.
