On February 27-28, five Chapin Eagles visited Anderson, SC to compete in the State Tournament. Paul Collingwood (120 pounds) and Austin Jeffords (285 pounds) returned home with Third Place honors. Both final bouts were particularly exciting as Collingwood won 9-8 after multiple overtime periods, and Jeffords fought to a 5-4 decision.

The Eagles, under the leadership of Head Coach Ken Wilson, close a very successful season that included a Top 8 finish in team competition, 14 Upper State individual qualifiers, 5 State individual qualifiers, and two third place finishes in the State tournament. The team is optimistic for continued success for the 2015-16 season.

On February 9, the sixth-ranked Chapin Eagles fell 38-31to a strong West Oak team in the Upper State semifinals. The Eagles started hot with pins by Dylan Whitcomb and Taylor Cabe, a major decision by Paul Collingwood, and a decision by Matt Cabe to build a 19-0 lead. A.J. Spearman also pinned his opponent to extend the lead to 25-5. West Oak fought back to regain the lead 32-25 with two bouts remaining. Austin Jeffords closed the gap to 32-31 with a pin. However, West Oak held on to defeat the Eagles 38-31.

Chapin’s team season has ended but the Eagles are preparing for the Upper State Individual Tournament, which will be held in Seneca February 20-21. The Eagles have qualified wrestlers in every weight class for this tournament.
