2016 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Letter from the President of Litchfield Baseball 2016,
I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Kurt Schaefer, the new president of Litchfield Baseball. I have been living in town for 12 years and have been involved with Litchfield Baseball for three years as a coach. At one point in my life I was a high school baseball coach and have an enthusiasm for teaching kids how to be better ball players.
I want to thank the previous board for all the hard work they did to keep baseball alive and well for our kids. Russ Pelham, Bill Gray and Eric Monico will still be helping this year.
Running a baseball league is very time consuming and takes lots of hands to keep it running smoothly. Fortunately, we have a new board that wants to work hard. Our new board members are myself, Dave Farnum, Alan Marcotte, Scott Reed and Mark Syphers.
We cannot do this by ourselves, if you want to volunteer, whether it be coaching, running concession or helping with fields, we would love to have your help. Your child will appreciate it. I was told by a former coach that once his son was grown he admitted that having his Dad coach him in baseball was the best shared time together. Volunteering does make a difference in your child’s life, don’t lose that opportunity.
Right now is a very exciting time for Litchfield Baseball, there’s lots of positive changes in the works for the league. We want to create an atmosphere of success and pride. We have a new look for our uniforms this year that we feel the kids will like. We have also started intense rehabilitation of our fields. Because of the great weather we had in December we were able to get Corning Field about 90% complete, Jeff Lane about 50% complete and GMS about 30% complete. There’s always something to do on the fields, if you have time to help let us know.
There will also be a different look for the fields, we are selling advertising signs for the outfield fences. The signs will help create a “ballpark atmosphere”. The ad revenue will allow us to keep improving the fields, purchase new equipment and invest in different venues for clinics for the kids. We want to be an elite baseball program, similar to programs that others have abandoned our town program for.
If you have a friend or neighbor interested in playing baseball please let them know that we want them to come play Litchfield Baseball, everyone is welcome. Sign-ups are now open, here’s the link- http://litchfieldbaseball.com. Player evaluations are at LMS on March 12th at 8am.
We now have a Facebook page that you can follow for the latest information. Here’s the link- https://www.facebook.com/LitchfieldBaseball/?ref=aymt_homepage_panel
If there is ever a question, comment or concern, please contact me. My email is kurt.schaefer@comcast.net and my cell phone is 603-966-7180 you can either call or text.
I’m looking forward to a great 2016 season. Thank you for allowing your child to play baseball.
Sincerely,
Kurt Schaefer
