VFW Tournament

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Aug 29, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hi Force Parents,

Hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day weekend and getting ready for the start of school in the upcoming days.

We wanted to remind everyone that the deadline is approaching for the VFW Tournament Ads that we need to provide in order to cover our costs for the tournament. We need to sell $700 worth of ads for our tournament fees and anything above that we will receive 50% that we will place in our "Force" fund. Last year the proceeds from our ads were enough to cover one tournament fees. Please contact Coach Jon or Caroline if you have someone in mind for our ads. Remember the deadline is this week so we really need to get on this as soon as possible.

Our VFW Tournament brackets are completed and we are set to play the Sabers in the first round, our bracket also includes the San jose Ninja and the new Cobra team. The other bracket will have the San Fernando Dragons, Jetts Wild Force, FOR Victory and Norwalk Ballaholics. We have not secured a gym yet but we will be working on it this week.

We will probably start up our practices around Saturday 9/13 which will give us about 6 weeks to prepare for the tournament. We will have scheduled scrimmages set up in this period so we are not as flat as we were in Las Vegas.

Before our first practice in September we will try to communicate with everyone the possible tournaments that we are looking to participate next year. We will need to know which tournaments you cannot make so if we needed to add players we will have enough time to do so.

Have a great weekend,

Mark

Thanks again to our parents who supported our players in getting them to practice each week, we've always had the majority of our players at each practice which helps us in preparing for any tournament or game situation.

Hollywood Dodgers Recap

Posted by Jon Morinishi at Aug 17, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Force Parents,

We wanted to thank all the parents for their time and commitment in getting our boys to all our practices in preparing for the Hollywood Dodgers Tournament this past weekend. Although we hadn't played a real game since the Tigers Tournament on Memorial Day we took another step in becoming an all around team in Las Vegas.

Our first game on Saturday was against the Mustangs who had picked-up two centers in preparation in playing us in the tournament. Although we started slow in the first half we picked it up in the second half and finished with a 41-27 victory.  Our free throw percentage was good at 71% (10-14) and our turnovers were 11 which was quite better than our average of 35 in the WLA Tournament.

Our second game was against the Pasadena Tigers Team which had been moved up from Silver as they had been beating their opponents by an average of 30 points a game in the FOR and Tigers Tournament. They had only lost to the Ikaika Warriors by 7 points in the Jetts Tournament, we practiced all month for them. Their strategy was to slow the game down so we couldn't run on them. It proved our discipline in our defense and also a different game plan that we needed to adjust during the game. The result was a 26-20 win with a 56% free throw percentage (9-16) but only 7 turnovers.

The Sunday game was the championship game against the FOR Victory who also were 2-0 after Saturday's games. We came out fast and took a 7-1 lead but we seemed to be a little slow and were beaten to the ball many times. We adjusted in the second half to help on defense and in the last 8 minutes of the game we played "Force" basketball. The end result was a 47-43 Championship win. We had a 58% free throw percentage (7-12) and only 8 turnovers.

All the boys played really hard this weekend and improved in what we set out to do since the beginning of the tournament season. We finished the summer with three championships in the WLA Tournament, Tigers Tournament and Hollywood Dodgers Tournament.

We still need improvement in our rebounding, zone offense, help defense and press break but it's always a work in progress as we continue to develop as a team.

We will be taking a few weeks off to enjoy the rest of summer vacation, for our moms to prepare for school and to give our boys a little break as well. We will resume our practices in September probably during the weekend of 9/13 but we will update this web site after Labor Day to see what the gym situation looks like.

Enjoy the rest of summer, great job to all our boys and parents.

Don't forget to get those ads into us for our VFW Tournament as soon as possible.

Thanks again,

Mark
