The Varsity football team played a home football game on Friday. These words now carry new meaning to everyone at Village. Last Friday evening marked the grand opening for the new Viking Field. This was a historic event as our Varsity boys football team became the first team in Village history to play a game on the turfed field. Our Head of School, Gabriella Rowe, gave the opening remarks on this special occasion. Once the action started, the atmosphere was recognizably different. The spectators could look on from the stadium style bleachers and enjoy the action from a great vantage point. The new sound system made the experience even more enjoyable by having a play by play man call the action on the field, and immediately segue into music during any breaks in the action. And with all that going on, it was still easy to get lost in the aesthetic beauty of the field. What a site to see!

The Vikings were pumped up from the onset of the game. Playing in a venue such as this surely had our boys feeling like NFL stars. Well, our team shined bright on this particular night. Just 5 minutes into the game, more history was made when Julian R-C handed the ball off to Draylyn D, who took it all the way for the first touchdown on the new Viking Field (see image). It was truly a magnificent game. The defense was generating turnovers, recovering 2 fumbles, and returning an interception all the way for a touchdown! The special teams had a nice boost from Tony F, who pinned KIPP back deep in their own territory on every kickoff. The passing game got going as well, connecting on 2 different passing touchdowns. The Vikings defeated KIPP Northeast by a final score of 38-22, improving our record to 4-3 overall.

The Vikings are home this Friday, October 16th, for the 2015 Homecoming Game! We need EVERYONE to come out and support our teams, celebrate our returning alumni, and take part in all of the pre-game festivities and games. The middle school football team will kick off at 5:00pm, followed by our Varsity football team at 7:00pm. Join us for “Friday Night Lights” at our new home- the new, Viking Field.

Go Vikings!!!

The Vikings Varsity football team dropped to 3-3 on the year after losing to Dallas A+ Academy by a score of 52-26. The Vikings were shorthanded for the game, but still managed to have quite a few bright spots. The team’s leading rusher, Draylyn D, carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards, and a TD. He also had a 60-yard kickoff return for a TD. Doyle capped off his day with a passing TD to Earl W. Senior captain, Evaristo C, had his first career TD on a 66-yard run in the 3rd quarter. Dami O, the team’s second leading rusher, led the defense with 11 tackles.

Despite the game, it was a positive trip for the football program. The team got to tour AT&T Stadium, which is home to the Dallas Cowboys. On Saturday, the Vikings attended the nationally televised Baylor vs. Texas Tech football game, which was also at AT&T Stadium. The Vikings hope to snap their three game losing streak this Friday, when they play at 4:30PM against KIPP Northeastern. Come out to Viking Field and show your support for your Varsity football team!

The middle school cross country team participated in the Dave Jantzen Invitational on Friday. This was the largest meet the Vikings have participated in so far this year. Dozens of the best private and public schools from all over the Houston area competed in this meet. The Vikings ran well. The 8th grade boys team finished in 3rd place and earned a plaque. Over 125 runners competed in the 8th grade boys division!

The Vikings are showing major signs of improvement. 13 out of the 19 7th and 8th grade runners set a new Personal Record (PR) for their 2 mile event. The 6th graders had their first experience running a 2 mile event. They did a great job with this distance and this will only make them stronger for their district championship distance of 1.5 miles.

The Vikings are back in action this Saturday, as the team competes in the Faith West Hills cross country meet. Come support your Viking runners!
