With this school year coming to an end, we start turning our heads towards August and the start of next year. August marks the start of our fall sports season. Our Varsity football team had a great spring in the weight room and are preparing themselves each and every day to build on their TAPPS 6A Independent State Championship game appearance they earned last year.

Coach KB is very excited for the upcoming season, but remains focused on all that needs to be done before then to be ready for the challenges that await his team.

Our Varsity track and field team competed at the TAPPS 6A State Meet and finished with some pretty good results. The Vikings qualified four members of the Varsity team and brought them to Waco to compete against the state’s best athletes. The meet was held at Baylor University’s Clyde Hart stadium.

Jordan de la T. competed in the 100 meters Hurdles and finished 9th. Jordan is the first freshman Track & Field runner to qualify for State in the history of the program. Ben A. finished second in the 800 meters, a race he lost at the tape. Ben posted a time of 155.60 which is one of the better times in the nation, and a new school record. Ben also finished 4th in the 400 meters with a time of 50.69. Alex A-E posted a time of 9:47.70 in the 3200m, which was good enough for a new school record and a 3rd place finish. Alex also finished 3rd in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:35.44, which also set a new school. Lastly Iyanu A. got 3rd place in the long jump, recording a distance of 21’3. Iyanu also Finished 2nd in the high jump, setting a new school record with a distance of 6’4 . The kids were outstanding and competed at a very high level. The boys finished an amazing 8th with only 3 boys. It was a great weekend for the Vikings!

The Middle School Track team has concluded its 2017 season and we are so proud of how far we have come. The HJPC championships were a success overall and the kids worked very hard to build up for that event. We had a lot of people get great times and personal records in their events. This year we definitely put the Village School on the map as a force to reckon with. The Middle School track staff is so proud of the effort given by every athlete.

Out of 12 schools at HJPC
8th grade Boys finished 6th
8th grade Girls finished 3rd
7th grade Boys finished 2nd (the margin from 1st was 1.5 points)
7th grade Girls finished 3rd
6th grade Boys finished 10th
6th grade Girls finished 5th

We also beat 18 total Middle School records this year. 9 for the boys and 9 for the girls.

We would like to acknowledge every member of the team for their character, commitment, work ethic, and attitude throughout the course of the season. They all knew they would be competing every week within the team for individual events at each track meets. There were no complaints and maximum efforts from all. We would like to thank all of the parents for their support throughout the season as we are grateful. Go Vikings!

On Thursday, April 27th, Starlyn F and Amber P, signed their National Letter of Intent to play collegiate athletics. Starlyn F signed with Delta College in Michigan to play basketball. Amber P signed with Davenport University in Michigan to play lacrosse and potentially dual sport in basketball. These two young ladies have been at The Village School for 3 years and have played huge role in raising the bar for female athletics at our school. They were 3-year Varsity starters on the Lady Vikings basketball team. In the last 2 seasons, the Lady Vikings have advanced to the TAPPS 4A (2015-16) and 6A (2016-17) Elite 8 of the State Tournament. Amber also played volleyball and lacrosse, earning MVP in girls lacrosse for the past 2 seasons. She is also our 2x reigning Female Athlete of the Year.

For all of the success these 2 student-athletes have had in their respective sports, they are also high character athletes and leaders in their programs. They contribute to our community by going on service learning projects and have leadership roles as captains on their teams. We wish them well on their journey in college and look forward to following their accomplishments and success at the “Next Level.”
