2007 Minor Bantam - YSBA AllStars

Posted by Mark Russell at Sep 22, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

This is where you can find the latest information.

An excellent weekend of all-star baseball closes out the 2007 season. All-star teams from York Simcoe and Toronto hooked up in a weekend home-at-home double-header exhibition series. The games were played in excellent weather and featured some great defence, great pitching and outstanding hitting. The umpiring was a little shaky but luckily it went both ways.

Game 1: YSBA jump out of the gate early posting a 4-2 lead in the first inning. Toronto started the inning with a 2 run HR over deep centre field. YSBA tied it when Dane G hit a 2-RBI single and two more runs followed when Christian B stroked another 2-RBI single. All the runs in YSBA’s 1st inning scored with two outs. Chris L started for YSBA and he threw four strong innings giving up just three runs (two earned) over his four innings. Toronto battled back in the 6th inning to tie the game 5-5 but YSBA posted 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to seal the win:

            YSBA 10 – Toronto 5

Game 2: In a back and forth slug feast the teams were tied at 7’s going into the 4th inning. Toronto would go on to take the lead scoring 8 more over the next three innings to take a 15-12 lead. In YSBA’s final at-bat the team loaded the bases with one out and the 4 and 5 hitter coming to the plate but the team came away with nothing and fell to Toronto.

             Toronto 15 – YSBA 12

Game 3: The 5th inning made the difference in this game as YSBA and Toronto were knotted at 3’s after four innings. Toronto got to Dane G who had pitched a great game in the 5th . YSBA battled back but could not recover the lost ground:

           Toronto 9 – YSBA 4

Game 4: The YSBA defence fell apart in the final game of the series giving up a total of 12 runs in the first two innings. Patrick J did the work himself in the second inning striking out the side to close out a disastrous 2nd inning. Christian D came on in relief and shut down Toronto over the next 4 innings picking up 7 strikeouts, giving the YSBA pitchers a total of 10 for the game, equalling the total number of strikeouts from the previous three games. YSBA did rally back but the team eventually succumbed to the runs that were handed out in early in the game:

             Toronto 19 – YSBA 6

THE YEAR IN REVIEW: Closing out the 2007 season.

Congratulations to the champions: Etobicoke Titans - AAA Champs and Ancaster - AA Champs. Barrie got off to an "awful" start loosing Game One to North York by getting mercied and giving up 14 walks over 5 innings of play. In Game Two the team came to play and knocked out Newmarket.  Game Three was a defensive masterpiece and the team made great play after great play but early opportunities at the plate came up short and the team fell in a squeaker to Welland.

Game One: North York AA 12 - Barrie 2

Game Two: Barrie 6 - Newmarket 4

Game Three: Welland 6 - Barrie 5

The most memorable moments of 2007.

There were many highlights to the 2007 season. A season of change resulted with the team bringing on board four new players for the second season in a row. Eddie stepped up right out of the gate and became a mainstay in the pitching rotation and in the batting order. Nathan soon developed and was batting in the middle of the order and became the defensive anchor in Centre Field. Josh and Cody became the most relied upon outfields and in the OBA’s Josh made to stellar plays in the final game of the season. Once again it was a bit of a roller coaster season with the added Toronto inter-lock there were no longer any easy games. Every game was battle. What follows are the games that really highlight the boys at their best. Click on the links and count down the heart stopping moments from the summer gone by. Here are the most memorable games and moments that we got to see

Highlight 5: Barrie 12 – Markham 2  The Red Sox Unload. After getting out of the gates slow to start the season the Red Sox unload with 16 hits against Markham’s normally stingy pitching. Christian and Eddie each go 3 for 3 at the plate and include a total of three extra base hits.

Highlight 4: Barrie 2 – Aurora 2 Battling Aurora. Aurora was proving to be the new powerhouse in YSBA but the boys continue to play them tight. In this pitchers duel it would be Barrie’s late inning defense and a 6-4-3 double play that preserved a draw.

Highlight 3: Barrie 5 - Scarborough 4 Stinging the Stingers. In the third close game of the season with Scarborough the Red Sox battled back from an early defensive lapse to knock off the stingers.

Highlight 2: Barrie 6 – Newmarket 4  A gut check. The Red Sox had their backs to the wall at the OBAs and had every reason to be down. The boys however responded and pounded out 3 runs in their first at-bat and Graham did the rest as he pitched a masterful game.

Highlight 1: Wellend 6 – Barrie 5  A defensive Gem. It was a loss and a loss that featured a few missed opportunities however the overall team defense was so amazing this game was simply the best the boys had played all season.

PLAY BALL! The new look Red Sox hold largest ever tryout camp for the 1993 team. The tryouts have been completed and we have added four new players for 2007. Congratulations as the line up will be made up of:
