THE YEAR IN REVIEW: Closing out the 2007 season.

Congratulations to the champions: Etobicoke Titans - AAA Champs and Ancaster - AA Champs. Barrie got off to an "awful" start loosing Game One to North York by getting mercied and giving up 14 walks over 5 innings of play. In Game Two the team came to play and knocked out Newmarket.  Game Three was a defensive masterpiece and the team made great play after great play but early opportunities at the plate came up short and the team fell in a squeaker to Welland.

Game One: North York AA 12 - Barrie 2

Game Two: Barrie 6 - Newmarket 4

Game Three: Welland 6 - Barrie 5

The most memorable moments of 2007.

There were many highlights to the 2007 season. A season of change resulted with the team bringing on board four new players for the second season in a row. Eddie stepped up right out of the gate and became a mainstay in the pitching rotation and in the batting order. Nathan soon developed and was batting in the middle of the order and became the defensive anchor in Centre Field. Josh and Cody became the most relied upon outfields and in the OBA’s Josh made to stellar plays in the final game of the season. Once again it was a bit of a roller coaster season with the added Toronto inter-lock there were no longer any easy games. Every game was battle. What follows are the games that really highlight the boys at their best. Click on the links and count down the heart stopping moments from the summer gone by. Here are the most memorable games and moments that we got to see

Highlight 5: Barrie 12 – Markham 2  The Red Sox Unload. After getting out of the gates slow to start the season the Red Sox unload with 16 hits against Markham’s normally stingy pitching. Christian and Eddie each go 3 for 3 at the plate and include a total of three extra base hits.

Highlight 4: Barrie 2 – Aurora 2 Battling Aurora. Aurora was proving to be the new powerhouse in YSBA but the boys continue to play them tight. In this pitchers duel it would be Barrie’s late inning defense and a 6-4-3 double play that preserved a draw.

Highlight 3: Barrie 5 - Scarborough 4 Stinging the Stingers. In the third close game of the season with Scarborough the Red Sox battled back from an early defensive lapse to knock off the stingers.

Highlight 2: Barrie 6 – Newmarket 4  A gut check. The Red Sox had their backs to the wall at the OBAs and had every reason to be down. The boys however responded and pounded out 3 runs in their first at-bat and Graham did the rest as he pitched a masterful game.

Highlight 1: Wellend 6 – Barrie 5  A defensive Gem. It was a loss and a loss that featured a few missed opportunities however the overall team defense was so amazing this game was simply the best the boys had played all season.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Vaughan The Barrie Red Sox travelled to Vaughan for the first tournament of the season. The team was placed in a pretty tough division and met up with some very good ball teams. Both Whitby and Mississauga Tigers advanced. The boys compiled a 0-2-1 record:
