Kilroot seconds get the points at Mallusk

Saturday 17th March 2007 Grange Rangers II 1 v 2 Kilroot rec II @ Mallusk pitch12 Kilroot scorers Stephen McClean Thomas Hammond Kilroot seconds and Grange II meet for the first time this season at Mallusk. The result a narrow victory for the visiting side but the score was no reflection on the game. In fact Kilroot scored against the run of play in the 12th minute after a long ball from Smiley was flicked on by Ricky Coulter who found Stephen McClean in space to score easily.0-1. In between times until the half hour Grange were kept at bay by Phillip Brownlee’s one man show. The latter period of the first half it was mostly Kilroot who were dictating play. 31 minutes from another Coulter cross Neill Hall netted but it was ruled off side. From the kick off Stephen McClean nicked the ball of the Grange man played a one two with Coulter and hit the post with his shot. McClean, Coulter and Chris Armstrong set up the lumbering McGahon but he didn’t even make contact with the ball. 60 minutes a tremendous free kick from Grange did beat Brownlee in the Kilroot goals only for the bar to get in road. 65 minutes Kilroot’s first sub the hard working Neill Hall was replaced by Thomas Hammond. 70 minutes Kilroot should have doubled their lead as McClean set up Coulter who rounded the full back and the keeper but didn’t put enough oomph in his shot easily cleared off the goal line. 75 minutes Coulter involved again providing the opening for sub Thomas Hammond to double Kilroot’s lead. 0-2 80 minutes Kilroot manager Russell Wallace made a double substitution of preventive measures both Ricky Coulter and Chris Armstrong already cautioned were replaced by Andy Mearns and Chris Barry. 85 minutes Grange another free kick this time Brownlee could do nothing to prevent it entering the goals.1-2 Kilroot team Phillip Brownlee, Barry Meek, Edd Armstrong, John Smiley, Jamie Campbell, Neill Hall (Thomas Hammond 65) Trevor Cole, Chris Armstrong (Chris Barry 80) Stephen McClean, Gary McGahon, Ricky Coulter (Andy Mearns 80)

Saturday March 2007-03-17 Kilroot Rec 4 v 1 Grange Rangers @ Beltoy Kilroot scorers Nicky Sharples (2) David Armstrong David Kidd Terry Thomas first match in charge turned out to be a tame affair against a very poor Grange Rangers team. Kilroot a goal ahead in 3 minutes a Nicky Sharples cross come shot deceived the Grange keeper and ended up in the back of the net. 1-0 There was a lull after the early goal with both teams having chances the best falling Kilroot’s way. 15 minutes Sharples played in David Armstrong and with a deft lob over the despairing keeper watched with disbelief as it bounced back of the crossbar to safety. 32 minutes Kilroot hit a purple patch scored three goals in two minutes the first from a Mark Latimer cross headed home by David Kidd, the second from a David Kidd cross volleyed home by David Armstrong, the third from a Simon Hamilton through ball found Nicky Sharples he outpaced the Grange defence to blast the ball past the keeper. 4-1 40 minutes Grange wasted a good chance from a well placed free kick that went wide. The second period Kilroot eased up slightly which allowed Grange more possession but still they wasted half chances. 55 minutes Kilroot’s first change David Gillespie replaced Mark Latimer. 65 minutes Kilroot’s second change Phillip Glover replaced Darren McKinty hopefully to give much needed rest to his damaged ankle. 67 minutes a glimmer of hope to Grange as Kilroot’s keeper clumsily pushed a forward going for a corner, referee Jim Holden had no option but to point to the spot Michael Ireland sent the keeper the wrong way. 4-1 As the teams tired chances appeared at both ends the best falling to Kilroot’s Simon Hamilton who somehow cleared a ball from under Granges bar. 80 minutes Kilroot’s final sub Gary Mulholland replaced David Armstrong and got a special welcome on board by the ever pleasant Nicky Sharples. Saturday 10th March 2007 18th N’Abbey OB 4 v 1 Kilroot Rec @ Cloyne crescent Kilroot scorer Nicky Sharples (p) Kilroot travelled to Monkstown today to play fellow promotion hopefuls 18th and it must be said finished a very poor second in a two horse race a match that Kilroot never got out of the stalls or were allowed to a match that all the so called big names were conspicuous by their absence a performance that didn’t merit being called a performance it was so off key, a total surrender. The strange thing about the game was it took 18th 35 minutes to score after hitting the post and had other chances wasted in front of goals. 18th scored on 35 minutes all stated by a throw in finishing in the Kilroot goals. 5 minutes into the second period 18th added a second goal followed by another on 55 minutes to go into a three goal lead. Kilroot had a few chances namely a Nicky Sharples one on one with keeper and Mark Latimer blasted wide from a good position. 70 minutes Kilroot got the opportunity to open their account from the spot after a deliberate hand ball; after some searching they found Nicky Sharples who duly converted. 3-1 This goal was the signal for the Kilroot management to change the personal on the field Phillip Glover replaced Mark Latimer. 75 minutes 18th completed the route with the fourth goal. 4-1 80 minutes and a little late Kilroot made a double substitution with Gary Mulholland and Paul Mawhinney replacing the injured (pride) Paul Mathers and Darren McKinty. Not a good day at the office. Quarter Finals Templeton Cup Kilroot rec II 4 v 3 Dromara Village II @ Beltoy Kilroot scorers Trevor Cole (2) Ricky Coulter Neill Hall This exciting match at Beltoy was end to end stuff with no quarter asked or given by two entertaining team’s hell bent on winning. Dromara hit the Kilroot bar on 10 minutes the ball cleared straight down the field picked up by Chris Armstrong who found the deadly Ricky Coulter playing his first game since his operation he gave the visiting keeper no chance with a blistering shot.1-0 14 minutes Dromara equalised Paul McVeigh reacted first to a rebound of the post to slot home. 1-1 23 minutes Dromara squandered a good chance in front of goals. 36 minutes Kilroot’s keeper Philip Brownlee pushed a goal bound shot unto the bar. 41 minutes from a good move down the left Dromara‘s Paul McVeigh slotted his second goal .1-2. 48 minutes Ricky Coulter nearly levelled for Kilroot his shot just wide. 50 minutes the goal of the match in a goal mouth scramble an attempted clearance by Dromara struck the inrushing Neill Hall on the face he redirected the ball into the goals with his nose, painful but worthwhile. 2-2 51 minutes Dromara wasted a good chance from a well placed free kick. 54 minutes Kilroot’s first sub David Gillespie replacing Jamie Campbell. 60 minutes from a corner ball Kilroot Ricky Coulter should have done better with an unopposed header. 72 minutes a Kilroot free kick taken By Chris Armstrong found the unmarked Trevor Cole at the back post to nod home. 3-2 76 minutes a super solo run by Kilroot’s Neill Hall tamely shot wide from 10 yards. 80 minutes Kilroot second sub John Smiley replaced Neill Hall. 83 minutes Dromara Ivor Bingham latching unto a free kick brought the teams level again. 3-3 85 minutes from another free kick Kilroot Chris Armstrong supplied the cross for Trevor Cole to score his second and the wining goal. 4-3 86 minutes Kilroot’s third sub Andy Mearns replaced Gary McGahon. This pulsating result takes Kilroot II into the semi final of the Templeton Cup for the first time in their short history. Saturday 3rd March 2007. Kilroot Rec II 3 v 5 Rooftop II @ Beltoy Kilroot scorers Gary McGahon (2) Trevor Cole. Kilroot seconds a goal up in 4 minutes scored from the spot by Gary McGahon it looked good. 6 minutes McGahon broke through again but shoot into the side netting when it would have been better to square the ball to the in rushing Darren Nelson for a simple tap in. The game was going from box to box manager Russell Wallace in between the post today made a great one on one block. 39 minutes Rooftop was level after some poor defending, 1-1. 40 minutes disaster for Kilroot a misunderstanding between Kilroot keeper and a defender resulted in the ball being headed into the empty need by same. , 1-2. 43 minutes a Gary McGahon solo run from the half way line restored Kilroot’s pride and levelled the scores, 2-2. 57 minutes from a David Gillespie corner Trevor Cole rammed the ball home to put in front again, 3-2. 60 minutes after a rearrangement of the rooftop team by the manager, Robert Anderson found the net, 3-3. 64 minutes Kilroot’s first sub Andy Mearns replacing Neill Hall. 66 minute Kilroot’s second sub new recruit Alan Drysdale replaced Thomas Hammond. In the 69th minute Anderson scored his second goal and Rooftops 4th goal. 80 minutes Anderson got his hat trick ably assisted by Jeff Begs 3-5, 86 minutes Anderson had a great chance of a fourth goal but some how he blasted the ball from under the goals over the Kilroot bar. Kilroot from a wining position were in the latter stages of the game pulverised by Jeff Begs and goal scorer Robert Anderson to complete a wining double over the disappointing Kilroot second string.
