Saturday 30th December 2006 Kilroot Rec II 3 v 0 Dunmurry YM II @ Beltoy Kilroot scorers Neill Hall Darren White Trevor Cole. This was not a great performance by any stretch of the imagination against a poor Dunmurry side, won it three nil with out ever being under any pressure. Kilroot II’s went into the lead on 3 minutes when Neill Hall was first to react to the bobbling ball in the Dunmurry box.1-0. 28 minutes Gary McCahon supplied the cross for Trevor Cole to double Kilroot’s score. 2-0. 29 minutes on a rare escaped into the Kilroot half Keeper Philip Brownlee saved at the feet of a Dunmurry forward. 35 minutes the goal of the match Chris Armstrong who had been causing Dunmurry heaps of trouble from the start of the game set up Darren White to sent in an unstoppable shot from 20 yards. 3-0. 52 minutes Gary McCahon wasted a gifted chance when shooting over the bar when other players were better placed. 55 minutes the first substitution by Kilroot Thomas Hammond working his way back to fitness and hitting the crossbar twice with delicate lobs was replaced by another on the fitness trail Andy Mearns. Kilroot scorers Chris Armstrong (2) Gary McCahon (2) Edd Armstrong Glen Mcauley Bangor Amateurs II started of like a house on fire cutting through the Kilroot defence as if it was not there in the 6th minute and the 15th minute to move into a two-goal lead, a rare baptism for come back kid David Hall standing in for regular keeper Phillip Brownlee. Saturday 16th December 2006-12-24 Holywood Rec 1 v 2 Kilroot Rec Kilroot scorers Nicky Sharples David Armstrong. 20 minutes into a tough physical encounter Kilroot’s Nicky Sharples nicked the ball of the Holywood sweeper on the half way line and sprinted goal bound to side foot the ball past the isolated keeper. 0-1. The match was nip and tuck until the 44th minute when the over enthusiastic Darren McKinty helping Paul Mathers to clear a ball in the box only succeeded in presenting an early Christmas present for a Holywood forward to the disgust of the Kilroot keeper. 1-1. 45 minutes John Mathers replaced the injured Mark Latimer who moved up front with Sharples, Armstrong falling into the middle of the park. 60 minutes Philip Glover replaced the injured Paul Mathers. 77 minutes Kilroot played their get out of jail card, full back Glen Crawford played a short back pass to Gary McClune which was intercepted by the opposition, heroic defending by Phillip Burnside and Stuart Hamilton resulted in Holywood being denied a certain goal. 3 minutes of madness from the 80th minute on ended any interest Holywood had in the game when two players were dismissed for second cautions. 83 minutes a Kilroot corner taken by David Kidd was only half cleared by Holywood to the edge of the 18-yard line Kilroot’s David Armstrong sent in a missile of a shot into the top corner of the goals, keeper never moved. 1-2. Holywood finished the game with only 8 players when a defender abruptly halted the flying Nicky Sharples goal bound run in the 85th minute. Kilroot just about deserved the victory over the 90 minutes period one that they will cherish as the season moves on. Kilroot team, Gary McClune, Glen Crawford, Paul Mathers (inj) (Philip Glover 60) Phillip Burnside, Stuart Hamilton, Mark Latimer (inj) (John Mathers 45) Simon Hamilton, Darren McKinty, David Kidd, Nicky Sharples and David Armstrong. Saturday 9th December 2006 Kilroot Rec II v 4th N’Abbey OB II @ Beltoy Kilroot scorers Chris Armstrong Gary McCahon. On this hastily rearranged match at Beltoy Kilroot seconds overcame a stubborn 4th N’A seconds team winning with a last minute goal scored by Gary McCahon after a hearty penalty appeal failed to get any sympathy from the referee at the other end of the pitch. Kilroot had the better of the first period and deservedly went in front with a daisy cutter of a shot from Chris Armstrong that beat Ryan Agnew in the visitor’s goals. Kilroot had other opportunities to increase the lead but failed to do so. The second half it was 4th who had the upper hand and drew level with a goal presented to them by the unlucky Philip Brownlee whose punched clearance fell invitingly for a 4th player to blast it goal bound. 1-1. Kilroot had their backs to the wall with John Smiley leading the defensive siege. Kilroot introduced Andy Mearns into the proceedings his first outing since a pre season injury in August he replaced Neill Hall. Kilroot’s second sub was Thomas Hammond who replaced Glen Mcauley still felling the pressure of two matches a day. Sub Andy Mearns had a great chance of name in lights but somehow headed over the bar from 3 yards. 90 minutes from one goalmouth to the other Kilroot’s Gary McCahon cut out a lone passage to score an opportunistic and wining goal for the home side slightly against the run of play. Kilroot team Philip Brownlee, David Gillespie, Edd Armstrong, John Smiley, Barry Meek, Trevor Cole, Chris Armstrong, Glen Mcauley (Thomas Hammond) Darren White, Neill Hall (Andy Mearns) Gary McCahon. 3rd sub Chris Barry not used.
