News and Announcements

Congratulations to the Dual Team!

The RJW Dual Team recently completed its 1st season in the new Northern New Jersey Youth Wrestling League (NNJYWL). Combined with its performance at the Montville Dual Tournament (where RJW finished in 3rd place), the RJW Dual Team finished the season at 10-9.  That is a huge accomplishment for a team with such a young line-up that competed in an ultra-competitive league featuring the very best teams across all of Northern New Jersey.  The team also competed very strongly locally defeating all but 1 Bergen county team in head to head dual meets throughout the season.

Competing on a dual team takes an exceptional amount of commitment to the team and RJW program as it requires travel and time. Wrestlers show great courage in facing tough opponents in order to help their team. RJW would like to thank all of our wrestling participants and their parents for being a part of our dual team this season. We would also like to especially thank Coach McElroy for leading the effort.

Wade Schalles Clinic

This week RJW wrestlers will have an opportunity to learn from Wade Schalles who some consider as the “world’s greatest wrestler.” Coach Schalles is in the Guinness Book of World Record for having the most wins and pins of anyone who has ever competed and has pinned more NCAA and World Champions than any other wrestler in history. He is a world champion, 2x NCAA Champion, and 4x Pennsylvania State College Champ where he won the outstanding wrestler award all 4 years.  He has had great success as a coach and parent in teaching children to be successful professionals, good citizens and great wrestlers.  Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn from 1 of the world’s all time best!

Year End Video

It is a tradition at the year-end banquet to show a video containing video clips and photos from the season. The content of the video comes from all of you. Please email a video clip of your son's best move on the mat. Please make sure the clip is less that 12 seconds as each year we receive up to 80 clips. Also, please send any candid photo shots of coaches, parents, or wrestlers some of which will be worked into the year-end video. Please send the videos, photos, etc. to Paul Calvetti at paul.calvetti@gmail.com.

December Wrestling Results

Montville Duals
Excellent job by the boys at Montville Duals in coming back from a slow start Saturday to win our last five dual meets and place third in our bracket with a 5-2 record, including a 45-31 win over the eventual champion West Essex in our head to head dual. It was an inspiring and gritty performance by RJW wrestlers and an excellent reminder of how much of a team sport wrestling can be with parents, coaches and wrestlers all participating in the 2 day event.

Don Bosco Tournament
We also had several medalists at the Don Bosco tourney led by Shane Trattner taking gold and Colin Roche and Mikey Kaufman grabbing a silver medal.

Cutter Classic Tourney Results
RJW finished 4th out of 14 teams this past weekend at the Cutter Classic Tourney in Fair Lawn despite entering only 8 of our more experienced wrestlers who were able to compete that day. Congratulations to all the wrestlers who participated and to the following place winners:

First Place:  Stuart McElroy
Second Place:  Colin Calvetti, Kieran Calvetti
Third Place:  David Hammerle, Jimmy Probert
Fourth Place:  Anthony Vaccarella
