Minors and Majors Evaluations

Posted by Tim Zacharias at Dec 20, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Minors evaluations will be held on Saturday, February 27 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Beverly Hills Club.

Majors evaluations will be held on Saturday, March 6 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Beverly Hills Club.

In 2009, the 11 year old tournament teams from Birmingham and Beverly Hills played for the District 4 championship.  To reach the championship game, each team had to beat formidable opponents from Grand Blanc, Rochester, Commerce and Linden, respectively.  Adding to the drama was the fact that this Birmingham team had won the State Championship the year prior. To be the best, Beverly Hills would have to beat the best.

Beverly Hills jumped out to an early lead, leading 1-0 after the first inning.  After three innings, Birmingham led 3 - 1.  Beverly Hills had three strong innings of pitching but tired in the fourth.  With limited pitching arms, it didn't take long for Birmingham to increase their lead by 10 runs, which ended the game after four innings.

This achievement was noteworthy, as it was the first time that this BHLL team has been in this position.  And despite BHLL losing the game to the prior-year State Champion Birmingham team, the kids finished their season with a strong sense of accomplishment and self-respect.
