JVA suffers first loss of year, 4-3 to Katy Taylor

Posted by Ron Holsey on Apr 02 2004 at 04:00PM PST
In spite of out-hitting the Mustangs 8 to 6, the Tigers couldn't come up with the big hit when they needed it, and fell to their first loss of the season 4-3 to Katy Taylor. The loss puts the Tigers at 12-1 on the season and 4-1 in District. Taylor put up one run on just one hit in each of the first two innings, with Katy keeping it close by scoring in the second on hits by Mike Thaler and Brian Ferris. The Mustangs then scored two runs on three consecutive hits in the third to close their scoring out. The Tigers tried to claw their way back by scoring in the fifth after a walk to Matt Glover and singles by Carter Jurica and Steven Boudreaux. Katy pulled to within one in the seventh after Jurica doubled and Andy Dalton singled him home, with Dalton moving to second on the throw in, but ended the game stranded at second as the Tigers couldn't bring him in to tie it. Dalton got the tough luck loss, going the distance and striking out 6, without walking anyone, and also added two hits for the Tiger Offense. Jurica stroked a double and two singles to lead the 8 hit Katy attack. The Tigers travel to Strake Jesuit on Monday at 6:00. KHS 010 010 1 3 8 1 THS 112 000 - 4 6 1
