The Tigers JVA team, led by Carter Jurica's 2-run home run, 3 singles, and 3 RBI's, and the complete game, 10 strike-out pitching of Andy Dalton, beat Katy Taylor 7-6 on Thursday night to win the District JV title and complete the championship sweep for all three Tiger teams. The victory also avenged their only loss of the year as the Tigers bounced back from an earlier 4-3 defeat to the Mustangs. Coach Todd Moebes' team finished the year at 18-1 and 10-1 in District.

The back-and-forth game saw the Mustangs jump out to a quick 3-0 lead, taking advantage of two hits and two errors, but Katy quickly clawed one back in the bottom of the inning. Jurica led off with the first of his four hits, Steven Boudreaux followed with a single, and a walk to Scott Williams loaded the bases up. Nick Barrios then squeezed Jurica home to make the score 3-1 at the end of the first. The Tigers then took the lead in the 4th as Barrios led off by being hit by a pitch, Bryan Ferris singled, and Cory Mitchell bunted them over, with Barrios scoring when the errant throw went into right field. Adam Heiman brought Ferris home with a sacrifice fly to center, and Mitchell scored on another Jurica single to end the inning with the Tigers leading 4-3. Taylor then tied it up in the top of the 5th with two hits and a sacrifice bunt, making the score 4-4.

The decisive 6th inning was led off with a walk to Mitchell, followed by a Heiman single. A ground-out by Matt Glover scored Mitchell and pulled the Tigers ahead by one. Jurica then crushed a fastball over the left field fence for a two-run home-run and what would prove to be the game-winning runs. The Mustangs rallied to score 2 in the top of the 7th, and had the potential tieing run on base before Dalton ended the game by getting two easy ground ball outs.

Dalton pitched his second straight complete game for the Tigers, striking out 10 Mustangs, giving up 9 hits, and walking only 2 in getting the victory.

Congratulations to all three Tiger teams for their District championships and good luck to the Varsity as they begin playoff play.
