Tigers come from behind to defeat Mayde Creek

Posted by Ron Holsey on Apr 14 2004 at 05:00PM PDT

The Tigers JVA team were down by two runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but rallied for a 4-3 victory over Mayde Creek to improve their District record to 7 wins against 1 loss and stay in the chase for the District title.

Matt Glover singled home Mike Thaler and Bryan Ferris with 2 outs in the sixth to pull the Tigers even at 3-3. Andy Dalton (on to pitch in relief of Steven Boudreaux) shut the Rams down in order in the top of the seventh to set up the rally. Boudreaux led off the deciding seventh with a double down the right field line and, after a Tiger strike out, Dalton lofted a fly ball towards right-center field. The Ram rightfielder made the catch but stumbled while making the play, allowing Boudreaux to tag and score from second with the game winning run.

The Tigers had scored their first run in the second inning on a Thaler double, a Ferris walk, and a Nick Barrios RBI single, but were shut down after that until the sixth.

Boudreaux pitched the first six innings, scattering eight hits, striking out two, and walking only two against an aggressive Mayde Creek lineup to allow the Tigers to remain close.
