UPDATE - FSN West (Adelphia channel 32 or 254) plans to provide news coverage, this Friday, January 26, of Manhattan Beach Little League’s recent charitable contribution of sports equipment to the New Orleans Recreation Department to help the city restore its youth baseball programs. The report is scheduled to air as part of FSN West’s 7 p.m. PST “Laker Pregame Show” immediately prior to the Lakers game against the Charlotte Bobcats. Manhattan Beach Little League today joined Fox Sports Networks to provide the New Orleans Recreation Department a substantial charitable contribution of baseball and softball bats, balls, gloves, helmets, catcher’s gear and Fox Sports merchandise. MBLL’s contribution stems from an earlier partnership between Fox and the New Orleans Recreation Department. In September, Fox produced its popular series "Best Damn Sports Show Period" live from New Orleans to mark the NFL’s New Orleans Saints’ return to the Louisiana Super Dome for the first time since Hurricane Katrina. "Best Damn Sports Show" also held a local Best Damn Sports Clinic to mark the occasion, bringing together top sports personalities to teach local children sports skills and help generate charitable donations to restore local youth sports facilities. The clinic was attended by top sports personalities including Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, former USC standout and now-Saints star running back Reggie Bush, Saints Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees and "BDSSP" host and former NBA titleholder John Salley, among several others. More than 150 local children enjoyed one-on-one interaction with the NBA and NFL stars, and the clinic helped enable the New Orleans Recreation Department to restore youth baseball and football programs back into the region. Today’s MBLL contribution, orchestrated by MBLL President Mark Pavone and the MBLL Board, will continue to support the New Orleans Recreation Department’s efforts to restore baseball and softball programs back into the local community, and also provide hundreds of local children with access to sports equipment. "There’s nothing more timeless or more precious to any community than kids playing baseball and softball," said MBLL President Pavone. "We’re fortunate in Manhattan Beach to play in one of the absolute top Little League organizations with some of the best facilities and equipment anywhere. We appreciate Fox having identified this need and specific program to us and we’re very privileged to do anything we can to lend some assistance." "New Orleans may be less in the news, but out of sight cannot mean out of mind," said Randy Freer, Chief Operating Officer at Fox Sports Networks. "Our experience in New Orleans with the Best Damn Sports Clinic was good for everyone involved, and so we are happy to assist Manhattan Beach Little League in helping that region continue to recover."imageimageimage
Thank you again for registering your player with Manhattan Beach Little League. Since your player is new to MBLL (regardless of whether the player has older MBLL siblings), we need to see a government-issued proof of date of birth (birth certificate, passport, not baptism certificate) and 3 items of proof of residence (e.g. drivers license, utility bills). Yes, 3 items for proof of residence seems like overkill, but that is the Little League requirement. If your player qualifies by attending an MB school, please bring some proof of attendance. We will be at Premier Snack Stand at the end of Herin south of Marine Ave. on January 6 from 9 am to noon. Please bring your proof of DOB and Residence or School with you.
