Blues Bats come Alive

Dart: Darren Doucette - three-run homerun, four walks, four RBI Halifax banged out fifteen hits en route to winning its first post season game since 1992. Dartmouth still leads the series 2-1. After being down 5-3 going into the seventh, the Blues turned four hits and two walks into a four-run rally to take the lead 7-5. A passed ball in the eighth extended its lead to 8-5. Dartmouth missed a golden opportunity in the bottom of the nineth. After loading the bases with one out, Darren Doucette drew a walk to plate one run. That was all the Dry were able to muster as Greg West popped out to first for the second out and Joel Irvine was robbed of a game tying hit by the slick glove work of Adam Lucas. Sheldon MacDonald went the distance in picking up the win. Darren Doucette hit a three-run homerun for Dartmouth in the third.

Keyed by a nine-run eighth inning that included eight straight singles, Dartmouth went on to trounce Halifax 13-3. The win gives the Dry a 2-0 series lead. Truro 001 110 200 - 5 10 4 Kentville 101 000 010 - 3 6 3 Kelly Spencer (1-0) and Jason Hoyt; Jeff Bishop (0-1) and Luke Smith. HR: Tru - Jason Hoyt (1) Tru: Craig Higgins - double, two singles, RBI; Winston Brown - two singels, two RBI; Kevin Matheson - two singles; Jason Hoyt - homerun Kent: Ian Lockhart, Pat MacLeod and Todd Benjamin - RBI singles each. Kelly Spencer threw a complete game, 13 strikeout effort to give the Bearcats a 2-1 lead in the series. The 13 strikeouts have brought Truro pitcher's strikeout total to 45 so far for the series.

Kentville Evens Series at One

HRs: Kent - Pat MacLeod (1), Mike Lockhart (1), Ian Mosher (1) Tru - Billy MacKenzie (2) Kent: Chris Salsman - four singles, RBI; Pat MacLeod - two-run double, two-run homer; MIke Lockhart - homerun, two singles, two RBI Tru: Billy MacKenzie - home run; Craig Higgins - two-run single Pat MacLeod drove in four with a double and homerun while Chris Salsman added four singles as Kentville went on to defeat Truro 10-5. Ian Mosher and Mike Lockhart also added homers for Kentville while Billy MacKenzie hit his second for Truro.

Truro Takes 1-0 Lead

Truro 310 110 000 - 6 11 2 Kentville 100 000 022 - 5 6 2 Nial Hughes (1-0), Michael Hughes (7), Craig Higgins (8), Kelly Spencer (9)(s,1) and Kevin Nichols (0-1), Kevin Daurie (7) and Luke Smith. HR: Tru - Billy MacKenzie (1) Tru - Kevin Matheson - double, two singles, RBI; Billy MacKenzie - three-run Homerun; Winston Brown - double, single; Shawn Fuller - two singles Kent - Ian Lockhart - double, two singles; Mike Lockhart - double, single. Billy MacKenzie's three-run shot in the first innings gave the Bearcats a lead they never relinquished. Nial Hughes gave up a run in the first inning then shut the door over the next five before giving way to Michael Hughes. Kevin Nichols, whose only bad inning came in the first, picked up the loss. Kentville rallied for four runs through the eighth and nineth inning. Kelly Spencer came on in the nineth to end the rally to pick up the save. Game two is slated for tonight in Truro.

Dry Take Game One

Halifax 000 000 020 - 2 7 6 Dartmouth 000 500 01x - 6 8 1 Luis Roberts (0-1), Sheldon MacDonald (5) and Ryan Veinot; Trevor Zwaan (1-0), Jim Langer (9) and Mark Weeks. Hfx - Adam Lucas - two singles Dart - Ryan Doucette - three singles; Darren Doucette - RBI double; Joel Irvine - two-run double. Dartmouth picked up where they left off before Nationals by winning it's 20th consecutive League game. Dartmouth erupted for five runs in the fourth aided by two of Halifax's six errors. Joel Irvine's two-run double that plated the Dry's first two runs was the first hit that Luis Roberts allowed. With a five run lead, Trevor Zwaan went into cruise control pitching eight solid innings to pick up the win.
