Truro One Win Away

Jason Bailey and Nial Hughes are wrapped up in a pitching duel, before the rains stopped action on Sunday. Neither pitcher had walked a batter until Hughes walked the first two batters of the fifth. Hughes helped his own cause in the inning by picking off the runner at first and getting defensive help when a Dartmouth runner was thrown out trying to take third on a wild pitch. Once the rains cleared, the first batter that Dartmouth's new pitcher Trevor Zwaan faced, Winston Brown, hit a two run blast that gave Truro a lead that they would never relinquish. Brown tallied another when he crossed the plate in the seventh to account for all of Truro's scoring. Kelly Spencer picked up the save. Dartmouth 000 000 001 - 1 5 2 Truro 000 020 10x - 3 6 2 Jason Bailey (0-1), Trevor Zwaan (5) and Mark Weeks; Nial Hughes (4-0), Craig Higgins (7), Kelly Spencer (s,3)(9) and Jason Hoyt. Dartmouth Bounce Back

Posted by Jody Jewers at Sep 13, 2002 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Game two of the Finals was suspended in the fourth with the score tied at one Friday night. When the game resumed, Dartmouth quickly picked up two runs and never looked back. Joel Irvine lead the way at the dish for the Dry with a pair of home runs and three RBI, and Chad Sawler and Jim Langer combined to throw six shutout innings in relief to give Dartmouth the 6-1 win. The victory knots the series at one with game two set for tonight in Dartmouth. Last year's game two was suspended by fog in the eighth inning with Truro leading 4-3. The fog that beseiged the province held up play on a Sunday and didn't allow for the completion of the game until the following Thursday. Tonight's probables are Craig Higgins for Truro and Larry Hood for Dartmouth. Dartmouth 001 201 011 - 6 9 1 Truro 001 000 000 - 1 8 1 (completion of rain-suspended game from Sept. 13. Game was suspended in top of the fourth with the score 1-1) Jason Bailey, Chad Sawler (3-0)(4), Jim Langer (s,1)(5) and Mark Weeks; Kelly Spencer (2-1), Jeff Fielding (4) and Jason Hoyt. HRs: Joel Irvine 2 (4), Darren Hiltz (1) Dart: Joel Irvine - two homeruns, three RBI; Darren Hiltz - home run; Mark Weeks - two singles, double Tru: Kevin Matheson - single, triple; Jeff Fielding - single, double
