Solists Adam Singer and Karla Eisch roared through the 5K run-12-mile bike-5K run at the Barnyard Biathlon held during the Land & Sea Harvest Festival in Milford on Sept. 29 to claim overall titles. Ol' Bloomie and Uncle Vern finished second overall and won the Male relay division, while the Morris tandem of dad Mike and daughter Brittany scored a win in the Mixed relay. MHSCCer Keith Short, who teamed with fellow MHSCCer Joey Palumbo to take third in the Male relay, got the early lead for his team, but Singer and Ol' Bloomie caught Palumbo early on the bike course. Singer and Bloomie dueled until the drawbridge opened on the last mile of the course where Mike Morris also rolled in on the bike. The three then made a quick sprint to the next run. Once on the course, Vern couldn't hang with the dominant Singer who won in a 1:15.21, just over a minute ahead of the VernCzars' 1:16.26. Congrats go out to Short and Palumbo for their improved time of 1:22.52, as well as Lindsay Kenton and Chris Demby who took second in Mixed relays with a 1:29.37. Amy Mallamo and David Nixdorf cruised along for a third place finish with a 1:46.02. Volunteer coach Brandi Bougher and her hubbie, Jason, each took first in their age groups, while Milfordians Gifford King, Michael Firch and Bill Creasey scored trophies as well. A special thanks goes out to the fire police and all MHSCC Booster parents, including those who helped sell a hundred-plus cups of fruit at the festival. What a great day to have fun and run! Bloomie stayed in the 21s at Sunday's Seashore Strider Men's 5K with a 21:41 - good enough for another fourth place spot. Uncle Vern pulled off his best time of the season with a 18:40 (must've been Wednesday's speedwork with Timmy Foster). Of course, Wesley CCer and CR asst. Matt Lindell blazed along at third overall and Seaford coach Rob Perciful dropped some time, as well. Glad to see Amy Mallamo cruising along (well, sort of). She battled to the finish with a 23:18 - good enough for a trophy, a hat, some free Wheaties and a bag of popcorn. Wow! What a load of prizes. Plus, she brought along her god brother from West Virginia who ran in the low 18s - not bad for his first 5K. He's looking forward to joining his CC team as a sophomore this fall. Maybe we can talk him into coming to MHS. :) Special Sauce Insider didn't uncover much today. Few high schoolers other than Mallamo made the race. Several Seaford Jays skipped the race to make their way to the Millersville Camp.

BLOOM STAMPEDES TO CAREER BEST

Posted by Czar Bloom at Jul 20, 2001 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Good news, bad news for Ol' Bloom at Saturday's Buffalo Stampede. Despite busting out a career best since the 1990 LFHSCC season, Bloomie took a fourth spot and failed to get a wooden buffalo (Yeah, I'm bummed, especially with all my running pals displaying those nifty bison honors.) I can't be too bummed, though. My 21:04 was 14 seconds better than this winter (Thanks for the encouragement, Chad) and nearly a minute quicker than last week. (Hey, Mallamo, I finally caught up to ya. I guess you'll have to pour it on this fall.) :) Uncle Vern got his first buffalo trophy and Dan, the Man fell a little short in the 10K. Plus, Matt Lindell ran well in his first 10K, while the wild man Tim Foster looked strong, too. Of course, some CR Riders (Jed Mountz, Kyle Luke) picked up some honors in their own backyard as well. Special Sauce Insider hears that Amy MonsterMo hit the hilly backroads of West Virginia Saturday. In the 23rd Annual Fairmont 5K/10K Run, the super MHS soph ran a 23:55 to place 2nd in her age group and sixth overall. WAY TO GO MALLAMO!

SAUCERS MAKE UP FATHER'S DAY RACE

Posted by Czar Bloom at Jul 14, 2001 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Bloomie finally got under the 22 barrier for the first time since the winter with a 21:58 to grab a third place age group trophy at Sunday's Father's Day 5K - a make up from an earlier rain out. Uncle Vern continued to cruise placing first in his age group and 10th overall. Glad to see MHS alum and former team captain Heather Rudd getting in a solid run of "about 27 minutes." Congrats again go out to Smyrna CC alum and CR assistant Matt Lindell who placed second with a 17:31. Special Sauce Insider saw Cape's Greg Swift continue to speed up and down the courses while a few of the Seaford girls also hit the roads.
