SINGER, EISCH TAKE OVERALL TITLES AT BARNYARD BIATHLON

Posted by Czar Bloom on Jul 31 2001 at 05:00PM PDT
Solists Adam Singer and Karla Eisch roared through the 5K run-12-mile bike-5K run at the Barnyard Biathlon held during the Land & Sea Harvest Festival in Milford on Sept. 29 to claim overall titles. Ol' Bloomie and Uncle Vern finished second overall and won the Male relay division, while the Morris tandem of dad Mike and daughter Brittany scored a win in the Mixed relay. MHSCCer Keith Short, who teamed with fellow MHSCCer Joey Palumbo to take third in the Male relay, got the early lead for his team, but Singer and Ol' Bloomie caught Palumbo early on the bike course. Singer and Bloomie dueled until the drawbridge opened on the last mile of the course where Mike Morris also rolled in on the bike. The three then made a quick sprint to the next run. Once on the course, Vern couldn't hang with the dominant Singer who won in a 1:15.21, just over a minute ahead of the VernCzars' 1:16.26. Congrats go out to Short and Palumbo for their improved time of 1:22.52, as well as Lindsay Kenton and Chris Demby who took second in Mixed relays with a 1:29.37. Amy Mallamo and David Nixdorf cruised along for a third place finish with a 1:46.02. Volunteer coach Brandi Bougher and her hubbie, Jason, each took first in their age groups, while Milfordians Gifford King, Michael Firch and Bill Creasey scored trophies as well. A special thanks goes out to the fire police and all MHSCC Booster parents, including those who helped sell a hundred-plus cups of fruit at the festival. What a great day to have fun and run!
