The Phoenix Christian boys track & field team completed a successful season finishing second in the 2A track & field state championships in a close race with Tombstone, Thatcher and meet officials. Indeed a team effort with athletes scoring in 8 events. The Cougars also won their second straight relay title as the 4x800 won going away against a stacked field. Individually, Mark Robinson won the open 400 meter dash. He also ran spectacular legs on the 4x800 & 4x400 relays. In a dramatic turnaround from last year, the distance team carried the load with Paul Bell, Thomas Ness and Brant Frazee scoring strategically in the 1600 & 3200. Robinson's 400 win was huge, but Alex Anderson's placing was nearly as important. Region high jump champ Micah Kuiper scored in in his event and Matt Kredit medaled in the 110's and scored in the 200. He also anchored a medal winning 4x100 that included Charlie Moinet, Michael Stahl and Jordan Mitchell. But the big story was the 4x800. Touted as the "race of the day", the Cougars practically ran away from the field as the team of Ness, Frazee, Anderson and Robinson came though in the clutch and set the tone for the team. Megan Van Hofwegen was the girls sole individual qualifier this season. Megan placed fourth in the 400, 5th in the 100 and 6th in the 200. In the 4x400, she teamed up with Kristen Shook, Alex Cisco and Laura Burns. The group placed 8th at state. imageimage
