Introducing RIPON CYCLONES BASEBALL

In 2007 the Cyclones travel teams were formed as an option for Ripon Baseball players to experience more competitive baseball opportunities than a traditional league offers. The group started with a U14 team and soon expanded to U18, U16 & U13 teams. After a lot of hard work, Mitch and Gary decided to put something together a youth sports program the community of Ripon has never seen.

The 2008/09 RCBA program will field competitive teams in the 10-and-Under, 11-and-Under, 12-and-Under, 13-and-Under, 14-and-Under, 16-and-Under and 18-and-Under Divisions. RC was designed and is committed to developing our young Ripon men as people, as students and as athletes. Players will develop life long skill sets through a structured forum both on and off the field. A foundation based on education (quarterly grade checks), teamwork, goodwill, developing relationships, hard work, and ethics will be developed and encouraged.

It is important to note that the goal is to try to build a program using only players from Ripon. This has it’s limitations and advantages. Most of the tournament teams are made up of players from a wide geographical area and compete for the “win” only. We want our teams to win and with a great program and commitment we hope that will come but winning is a very small part of what this is all about.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q. "How do I join the Ripon Cyclones??"
A. The RC baseball teams will be initially formed by invitation and try-outs only to families who live or work in the Ripon area.Team rosters will hold to at least 10 players, but not more than 12. Our coaches will only select players they feel can thrive in a competitve environment. Moral character, work ethic, ability to be a team player, and parental support and involvement will also be a big factor in the player selection process. If the coaches are unable to fill the roster with players that with the proper skill level and families that are committed to the program they will look outside the area to fill their roster.

Q. "What about Ripon Babe Ruth or Recreation league?"
A. Our program is not intended to replace but to supplement our local leagues. If your child feels strongly about playing league baseball they will be invited back to this program when they complete their obligations. We do not ban but we discourage the participation in both programs simultaneously as that would put too much strain on these young athletes. If the athlete chooses to play in one or more program their pitch count and rest will be monitored closely.

Q. "How much does it cost?"
A. The registration fee will probably be between $100-$250 depending on preseason fund-raising. The total cost for participation will vary based on the Uniform, Tournament, Practice, Equipment obligations. Also, a complete fund raising program is available to assist in defraying the costs. The total cost to run each team for a six month period is approximately $6-$7,000 ($550/child). Fees will not be collected until your child makes the team.

Q."Where do the Teams play?"
A. The locations will vary depending on available tournaments and practice locations. We will do everything we can to play and practice locally so we are not all breaking the bank at the gas pump. We will be able to practice (Ripon) and play games locally (Ripon, Modesto (Rianbow fields), Manteca or Ceres).

Q. "How long is the program?"
A. Many of the teams will start in the spring with some conditioning in the fall & winter. Your team manager will be able to give you a better idea of the schedule for your team. The U10, U11, U12, U13 & U14 teams may not start serious practices until Jan/Feb 2009 while the U16-U18 may play some fall games and be completed by February when the High School programs begin.

How many games will our team play?"
A. The game schedule will be largely based on fundraising efforts and the philosophies of the coaching staff. For our younger (14U and below) we are going to encourage the teams to participate in a spring league located in Modesto or Ceres that allows for two games per week and play one local weekend tournament per month. We will also encourage some weekend practices games and one weekend off of baseball for other family activities. This will give your child approximately 30 games during the spring season. .
