On Saturday, April 9th, 2016, the Village Track Team competed at the Fort Bend Relays. “It was a great day for the tack team,” said Coach Harvey. “Our kids ran very well and they are all improving.”

Alexandre A-E gave the Vikings a great start to the day when he finished 3rd in the 3200m with a time of 10:55. Gabrielle B finished 6th in the 200m, running a 28.44. Ben A ran a personal best in the 400m, with a time of 51.75.Alice O was 7th in the shot put with a throw of 25’11.

A host of others ran very well at the Fort Bend Relays, but this was an afternoon that would be remembered for a longtime to come. There were three school records broken on this day.

Charlotte S broke the school record and finished 3rd in the 800m, with a time of 2:30.88, beating the old school mark of 2:37.39, set in 2011 by Elise Renard.

Gabrielle B got 3rd in the 300m hurdles and broke the school record with a time of 50.59, beating the old mark of 52.51 set by Emily F in 2011.
Ben A got 1st place in the 800m. He broke the school record with a time of 2:03.89, breaking his own record time of 2:04.78 set last year.

“This was our best meet thus far. Our athletes are continuing to better their times and are starting to place high in several events,” said Coach Tryon.

Our next meet will be on Thursday, April 14th at Cypress Christian, followed by the Allen Academy meet on Saturday, April 16th.

Viking Golfers Advance to Regionals

The boys Varsity golf team posted a team score of 343 to finish 3rd in District Tournament on Monday, which secured a spot in next week’s Regional Tournament. The Vikings were led by Justin V & Daniel P, who both shot 84, and finished top 10 in district. Also notable for the Vikings were Senior golfers, Fraser K, who shot 87, and Ross B, who shot 88. The Vikings are hopeful to advance to the State Tournament by playing their best golf next week.
Despite a round that was not up to our normal standard, Coach Brotherton is very optimistic about the direction his team is going. “Our #1 golfer (Ross B) played with an injured thumb, and we didn’t play our best. That being said, Daniel P and Justin V really stepped up on the back 9. Today was about finding a way to advance. I’m excited about our chances at Regionals. If we play our best golf, advancing to the State Tournament is a real possibility.”

For the Lady Vikings, last year’s State qualifier, Mariana O, came in 5th place overall at the tournament, earning a medal and securing a spot at next week’s Regional Golf Tournament. Despite a shaky putter, Mariana’s solid ball-striking from tee to green was enough to have her advance. Coach Petito is very excited with the way Mariana has played all season long. “She has been in the top 5 at each tournament we have played. If she is putting well, she can compete with anyone in our district. She is a very talented golfer.”

Good luck to our golfers who advanced to next week’s Regional Golf Tournament and Go Vikings!!!
