The Varsity girls basketball team has had an impressive start to their season. After 10 games, the Lady Vikings are 7-3 overall. The strength of their non-conference schedule and quality wins early on has people starting to take notice in this young, growing program. After playing 3 state ranked large-private school teams in the Houston Christian Tournament last weekend, and going down to the wire against 6A public school, Katy High School, the Lady Vikings are gaining invaluable experience that will serve them well in District play. “Our schedule is designed to challenge us. All three of our losses were competitive games, against quality opponents. Those losses are also chances for us to grow as a team. Our goal in scheduling is to push our team beyond their comfort level. These experiences develop mental toughness and bring a team closer together. We want to be battle tested before we enter our District schedule.” Coach Brotherton is excited to see the growth and strong bond this team has developed early on in the year. No matter what obstacles and adversity this team faces going forward, they will be ready to work through it together.

After asking Coach Brotherton what the reason was for his team’s success, he was quick to praise the work ethic of his players. “Our success this year is directly reflected in the amount of work that our girls have put into preparing for the season. Our focus is on the process of being successful, not just the results. We believe that if we take care of the things that we can control, then we will get the results that we desire. I am very proud of this group, as they had the highest percentage of athletes in the weight room. Our players were in the gym all fall, before school, working to improve their skills. This dedication to the process is what has formed the foundation of our program. We still have a lot of things to improve, but I am excited for our players.”

Come and support your Lady Vikings for their first home game is Tuesday, November 24th at 4:30PM. The Lady Vikings will be playing another 6A public school, Morton Ranch. This promises to be an exciting matchup.
