Third Bake Sales Nets $512.00

Posted by Robert Griffin, Jr at Apr 30, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Hello, Five Hills Track & Field Family. We are pleased on the behalf of faithful members who see the vision of reducing the cost out of your out of pocket expenses. We have now achieved $2,045 in fundraising (awesome). Additionally, I would like to thank the track team for going forward without my presence at the bake sale. I was in Waco being a pleased father as my son and daughter competed at Baylor University in Waco during their Regional Qualifier over the weekend. We witnessed four (4) athletes with humble beginnings as member of the Five Hills Track & Field Team members make it to the State meet on May 13, 2006 at the University of Texas in Austin. It was pleasing to see the efforts Donald Buckram in the 100m Dash (Our Sprint King), Valerie Hancock in the High Jump, Dejon Griffin in the Discus Throw, and Robert L. Griffin, III in the 110m Hurdles and 400m Dash. They did well, but the story isn't over. As a team we thank and appreciate the MOMS and DADS who worked diligently over the ovens and stoves, and the ones who sprinted to Wal-Mart and H-E-B to contribute or offered donations in their absences. Thanks for not saving Coach Griffin any of your treats. I would like to address a few issues which surfaced during our bake. First and the most important: child safety. It came to my attention that an individual attempted to lower one of our athletes to their vehicle with a cell phone. Please do not be surprised. This is a common threat against today's youth. We must ensure that our watchful eye is always on our precious young spirits. Secondly, Blockbuster Video Manager stated, they are moving to only supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs. I am working this issue at the Blockbuster Video Corporate level. The GOOD NEWS is that we are honored and will continue to conduct our scheduled bake sales at Blockbuster Video. Also, I've taken issue about them restricting our personnel count at the location. We also encounter a misinformed manager at Hollywood Video; I've taken care of that issue of our presence at the video rental store. We have coordinated very well thanks to Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Shedrick. Apologies were given, and we accepted them. On a final note, please remember our efforts are to attract willful donations, and our appearance in public is a direct reflection of out motives. We wish to be viewed in an honorable way. I really appreciate the parents and athletes, so much; I have a gift for all the parents. "Train Hard, Eat Right, Hydrate!!!" Coach Griffin

Video Bake Sale a $1,000.00 Success

Posted by Robert Griffin, Jr at Mar 17, 2006 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Hello Five Hills Track & Field Club Family, we are very pleased to inform you of our bake sale efforts on Friday, March 17, 2006 in front of Copperas Cove's Hollywood and Block Buster Video Stores which yielded $974.00. In January, Coach Griffin outlined many areas of emphasis to make this years' track campaign flow even more efficiently. His vision of greatly assisting families with cost of participation was set high. Youth sports in America is becoming very expensive. Coach Griffin and the board members all agree that our fundraising efforts must be aggressive, timely, and efficient. Coach Griffin continues to tell the board members that, "Fundraising is about Time, Location, and Effort." We felt our scheduling was timely; a Friday and a payday weekend. We felt our location was paramount; the need of Americans desires to escape reality through movies. And most definitely, we felt our effort was determine and well thoughtout; Coach Griffin, Coach Terry, the parents, and all our athletes waving at every vehicle traveling east and west on Copperas Cove's Highway 190 was inspiring. Our veteran and new members joined together to make this a joyous fundrasiasing occasion. Carmen Johson, Tracy Babbs, Tami McCarter, Clyde Turner were the movers and Shakers at the Hollywood Video Store location. Jonah Shedrick, Silvia Sloan, Jackie Spell, Carlene McArthur were the movers and shakers at the Blolckbuster location. We thank all the wonderful mothers and fathers for their dutifulness over the oven, HEB, and Wal-Mart bakeries for the wonderful food items presented for donations. We thank all Central Texas residents traveling through Hwy 190 on March 17, 2006 for all your waves, smiles, and donations. We also would like to thank the moviewatchers, members of Blockbuster and Hollywood Video for your cheerful kindness in supporting the Five Hills Track & Field Club Family. Our bake sales efforts were boosted up with a $26.00 gift to an awesome $1,000.00 by our Awards Chairperson's (Silvia Sloan) mother from Radcliff, Kentucky. Mrs. Trudy Cruz spent many hours baking her German specialties of fudge, magic cookie bars, and apple struesel (cakes).
