AL Playoff Seeds

Posted by Michael Cahill at Jan 30, 2014 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

I think I made a mistake with the AL seeds.

All 4 teams essentially tied for 1st with 18 points.

Head to Head record(s), then Division Record determine seeds. I think I had Angels at 4-2 and the other 3 teams at 3-3 and then went to Division record to determine seeds.  Or, since no definitive head to head winner, I went right to Division record.  Not sure. Here are the correct seeds. Division record (points) doesn't actually come into play.

1) Angels: 4-2 (2-0 vs Mariners, 1-1 vs Astros, 1-1 vs Tigers) (Angels points vs AL Division = 14)
2) Mariners 3-3 (0-2 vs Angels, 2-0 vs Astros, 1-1 vs Tigers) (Mariners points vs AL Division = 12)
3) Astros 3-3 (1-1 vs Angels, 2-0 vs Tigers, 0-2 vs Mariners) (Astros points vs AL Division = 9)
4) Tigers 2-4 (1-1 vs Angels, 1-1 vs Mariners, 0-2 vs Astros) (Tigers points vs AL Division = 12)

So, Angels play Tigers with Angels getting home field for all games.  Mariners host Astros (Games 1,3).

Week 14 - Important

Posted by Michael Cahill at Jan 9, 2014 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The AL race is tight with the Indians at 15 points and 4 teams at 14 points.  Royals are the first team to be officially eliminated.  No one offically out yet in the NL.  Some notes on Week 13.  There were 5 shutouts.  2 players (O'Neill, Cahill)  had their season long hit in every game streak end.  2 players still have that streak going.  Hint:  they both play on the same team.  Typically, the pitching speed continues to rise as you approach and enter the playoffs.  Saw some of that in Week 13.  The harder throwers need to slow it down; especially when your told during the game that you are throwing too hard.  Indians are bringing the equipment to week 14 (Jan 15).  Need either the Dodgers or the Padres to bring the equipment to week 15 (Jan 22).  Need the scorebook done Jan 15.  Astros are assigned.  Mike Hanlon does a great scorebook.   Lean on Mike for direction.  Whoever does the book, make sure you document the fielding positions for the defense for every inning.  Thanks.

Broken Santa Gnome & League Notes

Posted by Michael Cahill at Dec 26, 2013 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Frustration mounts on the closing night of interleague play. Mariners lead the league in bat tossing as Michael Murphy attempted to behead Angels Star John Daly. His 2nd bat toss of the season. Steven Castrello followed with a two handed toss at the 1st base coaches (Danny Sidoti and Eric Becker). Topping off the javelin throwing... hard hitting Snoop of the Angels fired away at the windows on the 3rd base line. A perfectly placed Santa Gnome was struck and broken, but did save the window. Nice job by the Santa Gnome. Snoop is repairing the gnome and plans on giving it to brother in law Mike D as a late Christmas gift. As we head into the final 5 regular season games, any bat toss that dents, bends, or destroys a bat will result in a $20 immediate fine payable right after the incident. With interleague play over, the NL went 4-2 in week 11 and won the series going 18-16-2. AL top 5 teams are separated by a couple points and in the NL all teams still alive as the Brewers and Cardinals both had big wins in Week 11.
