Jared Gayhart was recognized by Houston 5A Baseball by being named 2nd-Team All-Houston in their Pre-Season Poll. Jared is coming off another great season in 04 where he hit 0.433 highlighted by hitting the game winning bomb in Game 3 versus Elkins in last year's playoffs.image

H5AB 2005 Katy Tigers Preview

October 19, 2004 © Houston5ABaseball.com The Katy Tigers graduated a team full of talent in 2004. That team led the Tigers to a 19-5A District Championship and a Region III finalist. Coach Mac will have his hands full replacing guys like Hargrove, Juhl, Ray, Norris, Canales, Chumley, Hammonds, Fuda, & Szymczyk. Mac’s returning class and quality newcomers will allow him to do just that. It’s hard to believe that a program could lose so much and yet be in good shape. The Tigers are just that, in good shape returning a huge bounty of Varsity talent. To compliment that returning Varsity talent are the newcomers that are sure to open some eyes in 2005. Some of the quality players the Tigers will feature in the upcoming season: Jared Gayhart – 3rd team All State – two time all district selection – hit 433 last season he was also 3-2 on the mound. Mike Scott was 5-1 on the mound last season - his only loss came in the state Region 3 finals against Kingwood – era of 1.81 Nick Viscardi was 2-0 on the mound with a ERA of 1.86 and two saves, Will Bostian 3-2 on the year with a 3.23 ERA , Clayton Jurica was 2-0 on the year with 2 saves with a ERA of 1.45 and Hit 422 on the year – before his season ending injury. The Katy Tigers have reloaded and are ready for another play-off run in 19-5A. Katy Tigers District 19-5A Head Coach: Tom McPherson 2004 Record: 31-9 2004 Play-Offs: Region III Finalist-defeated Bellaire 2-games-to-0, defeated Elkins 2-games-to-1, defeated LaPorte 2-games-to-1, lost to Kingwood 2-games-to-1 in Region III Final. KEY LOSSES: Ricky Hargrove – Pitcher / 3rd baseman (Houston); Brian Juhl – catcher (Stanford); Frank Fuda – shortstop (Baylor); Brandon Szymczyk –pitcher (ULaLa);Kevin Canales – outfield/ DH (Angelina); Chris Norris – outfielder (Southwestern); Stuart Ray – outfielder (St. Edwards); Billy Chumley 2nd baseman: and Alex Hammonds part time starter at third.
