Posted by Alan Hood at Jan 2, 2010 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

LBA Board thanks all those that participated in the annual survey for the upcoming 2010 baseball season. The intent of the survey was to collected data on how to improve the LBA website for parents, coaches, and players. Although the results of the survey may be not be startling, what might be surprising to visitors is that the new LBA Board has already started working on some of the more important areas identified by this survey. As with many things in life, making improvements isn't necessarily easy, and may present a few challenges.

So, what needs improving? Below are the survey results grouped into two main areas: Improvement Needs and Important Issues.

IMPROVEMENT NEEDS

Category % Responses
Schedules 19%
Standings 12%
Teams 12%
LBA News 10%
Calendar 8%
Handouts 7%
League Rules 7%
LBA Board 6%

IMPORTANT ISSUES

Category % of Responses

Team Standings 23%
News 23%
Easier Registration 10%
Message Board 10%

Schedule information is the most important area that LBA website can improve for the upcoming 2010 season. Team information, which includes standings, and LBA News are the next most important areas for improvement. The remaining areas received less than 10% of survey responses, and thus, are minor compared to schedules, team, and news information.

WORK HAS BEGUN
If it has been a while since you have visited the website, take a look around. You will find that some of the major areas for improvement are being addressed.

For instance, the Team section has updated information for all the divisions. Each team site has the cap logo and team colors. Important information at each team site are the names of the 2010 team coach and assistant coach, a place to list the next games, and links to team specific game schedule.

UPCOMING CHALLENGES
What are the challenges for the LBA Board to providing up-to-date schedule information and team information?

There are two main challenges.

Information Overload
With approximately 130 games played for all LBA divisions each Spring, the amount of game schedule information to track and update is significant.

Keeping schedules up-to-date
Youth baseball is an outdoor sport, and subject to the weather. Unfortunately, the weather may not co-operate and some games may be re-scheduled or cancelled during the season. Keeping game schedule information up-to-date in a timely manner due to unfortunate weather conditions will be a challenge, requiring careful planning, training, and good communication.

SUMMARY
The 2010 Annual Survey emphasized three areas for improvement: schedules, team, and news. With this information, the LBA Board will identify how schedule, team and news information can be incorporated and maintained during the upcoming 2010 season.

Sincerely,

Alan Hood
LBA Online Coordinator
