This past weekend, the Litchfield U12 Arsenal won their first game of the 2011 All-Star season in the Litchfield Invitational. The win came on Sunday, July 10th, against a big Kearsarge Mountain U12 team. Litchfield came out swinging the bat, scored early and never lost control of the game. The coaches did a great job of effectively using their batters at the plate, mixing up swings for a hit with bunting, and aggressive base running. The team scored their first run in the first inning, and then scored additional runs in nearly every inning for the rest of the game. In two innings, Litchfield U12 scored runs with the bases loaded by getting the bat on the ball, and the ball in play, which put pressure on the opposing team to execute. Like the offense, the defense also played well. The infield made outs when it mattered most. The outfield did an excellent job of preventing opposing base runners getting additional bases. The Litchfield U12 team kept fielding errors to a minimum. The defensive player of the game was Matt Gagne, who struck out 10 batters and pitched the entire game. Well done Matt!
