In a matchup of the first and second place teams in the league the Bulldogs (12-6-1) were nipped 2-0 at Morton Field in a pitchers duel between two of the league's best.

Reading knew in order to beat the two-time ICL Pitcher of the Year Jared Freni (7-0, 1 unearned all season) they would need to play a perfect game and take advantage of the few chances they would have to score against the Malden righty.

However, the Bulldogs did not succeed as the Chiefs scored both their runs with small ball in their only two opportunities against the strong pitching of Taylor Robinson and offensively they could not get the big hit over the final three innings.

The Bulldogs had five hits and three other base runners but four runners were stranded in scoring position as Freni was able to get out the jam each time. The last time was in the seventh when Brandon Bingel and Dante Padovani singled with one out but were left on the bases and with that the Bulldogs six game win streak was ended by the defending champs.

The Bulldogs (12-5-1) won their sixth straight game 9-2 on Friday night as they received strong hitting from the top the lineup and Nick Kelley dominated the Trojan batters for six innings.

Darren Hartwell singled, stole second and scored on Hank Oringer's single in the first inning. Then in the second inning Hartwell singled in Brandon Bingel whom had singled and stole second base. The Bulldogs have 27 stolen bases on the season which is far and away the tops in the league.

The game was put out of reach in the middle innings when Oringer (.395) hit a home run to right center and both Paul Crehan and Mike Taylor had two run singles.

Nick Kelley only had trouble in one inning when the Trojans had their only three hits against him on the night to load the bases. However, Kelley bore down and struck the last two batters of the inning to preserve the shutout.

Arlington pushed across two unearned runs in the seventh off the Bulldogs reliever but Reading closed out the 9-2 win.

The Bulldogs (11-5-1) finished off a ten game stretch with a 8-1-1 record by defeating Wakefield 2-1, behind continued strong pitching and defense. Readings first three hitters of the game had base hits, including rbi doubles from Hank Oringer and Colin Sitarz. From that point on former local Stoneham HS Hall of Famer Pete Fisher shutdown the Bulldogs only allowing three more baserunners the rest of the way. Meanwhile Nick Boutoures earned his second straight win allowing just 3 hits and one walk on 69 pitches over six innings. Kevin Church came in the seventh to earn a save after the Merchants broke the Bulldogs string of sixteen straight scoreless innings, with a run on two hits and a sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs (10-5-1) sit in first place in the Intercity League after a significant statement was made at Endicott College with their twi-night doubleheader 4-1 and 3-0 sweep versus the powerhouse Lexington Blue Sox.

Reading has always played the eight time champs tough and have taken several games against the Blue Sox in the past three years; but tonight's games, for the first time, had the feel that the Bulldogs had equal standing talent wise on the field of play with the League's bell weather franchise.

In game one, it was the two out clutch magic appearing for the third straight game. All of the Bulldog runs were scored with two out hits. Darren Hartwell had the Bulldogs first hit in the third inning and after a steal of second came home with the games first run on Nick Conti's single.

After Lexington tied the score in the fourth, Reading pushed ahead in the fifth on a Hartwell rbi double followed by a Conti single making the score 3-1. Another two out rbi this time a double by Ryan Wolfsberg gave the Bulldogs a solid three run cushion.

Bulldog starter Zac Levine had a serviceable outing and was aided by a strong two inning save from Brian Pedrotti who retired the last six Blue Sox batters of the game.

In game two, the Bulldogs defense and starter Sean Boyle never gave the Blue Sox a hint of momentum with an impressive shut down of the league's top offense.

The Bulldogs run on a double steal with Conti (double) and Colin Sitarz in the first proved to be all they would need in their briskly played 75 minute victory.

Dante Padovani stroked a two run double to give Reading a 3-0 lead in the third which at the time was looking like more than enough based on Boyle's mastery of Lexington.

Buoyed by solid infield play including second baseman Andy Gagnon's six assists, Boyle was dealing grounders (11) and strikeouts (6) all night as the Blue Sox only hit three balls to the outfield in the game with just two hits including one on a swinging bunt. You would have to go back in the archives quite a way to see the last time Lexington only advanced one runner past first base in a complete game.

For the season, after 16 games the Bulldogs have only allowed 26 earned runs, and are second to only the Andre Chiefs in runs allowed per game.

Reading hopes to keep the momentum going on Wednesday evening against the Wakefield Merchants at Walsh Field.

The Bulldogs (7-5-1) dropped the Andre Chiefs on Friday night 3-2 at Endicott College with a late run after falling behind one of the league's top pitchers. Darren Hartwell threw out a Chief base runner at the plate to end the first inning and then Reading came back with an early run in the bottom of the inning when the league's top hitter Zac Talis (.500) knocked a the run with a single. The Chiefs pieced together four hits and two runs against Bulldog lefty Kevin Church to take a 2-1 lead but Reading tied it in the fourth on a Paul Crehan run scoring single. The winning rally was setup when Steve Buitkus lead off the sixth with an infield hit then stole second base. With one out Dante Padovani stroked his third hit of the night bringing in the lead run. Church finished off his up and down outing by retiring the Chiefs easily in the seventh to give the Bulldogs their first win over Andre this season after dropping the first two.
