The Bulldogs (8-5-1) finished off a nice weekend with their second consecutive late inning comeback win as they defeated the Watertown Reds at Morton Field on Sunday evening. With the win Reading took the season series from their perennial rival (2-1-1). The Reds came out of the gate strong when Sean Callahan rang a two run home run off the left field scoreboard giving Watertown a 3-0 lead. From that point on Bulldog ace Taylor Robinson (2-0) shut down the Reds as he took command from the mound allowing just three hits the rest of the way while striking out seven. Meanwhile the Reds pitcher Scott Lueders who had shutout Reading just a few weeks earlier on the same field allowed the Bulldogs just three hits and one run over the first five innings. As they had done two nights earlier the Bulldogs put together a sixth inning rally. Zac Talis hit a long double with one out followed by a Nick Conti single and then Andy Gagnon was hit by a pitch. Lueders induced a pop out for the second out of the inning. John Halsey then stepped up and singled to left scoring the tying runs making it 3-3. After an infield hit loaded the bases, rookie catcher Paul Crehan delivered a bomb off the right centerfield fence clearing the bases and giving the Bulldogs a three run lead. Robinson then finished off another strong outing for his second complete game win of the week. The Bulldogs finish out the first half at Lexington HS on Monday night against the Blue Sox where they will enter the game in second place in the league standings.

The Bulldogs (6-4-1) broke their Bentley jinx by holding on, in seat squirming fashion, for a 6-5 win over the Reds on Tuesday evening. The prior two outings at this venue the Bulldogs lost in walk off fashion to the Reds, including last year in a game in which the Bulldog pitcher threw a no-hitter and still lost. Early on it looked like the Bulldogs would not have to worry about late inning heroics this time as they jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three. The Bulldogs plated the six early runs with Hank Oringer and Dante Padovani each having two hits including a double, and Zac Conti scoring on a delayed steal of home and a driving in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Reds chipped away slowly inning by inning and the comfort level on the Bulldogs bench started to resemble the oppressive humidity they were playing in. In the bottom of the sixth the Bulldogs were saved from a tie game when the man who's day job is to take care of the field he was playing on, Dante Padovani, threw out the potential tying run at the plate with John Halsey applying the tag. The Reds put the lead runner on to start the seventh and then he advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Reading native Jack Burke (St. Johns Prep) closed the door with a save, in his first Bulldog appearance, by easily retiring the final three batters. The Bulldogs are now 3-0-1 in their last four games as they enter a home and home series with the first place Andre Chiefs.

The Bulldogs (6-5-1) four game unbeaten streak came to end on Wednesday night at Malden Catholic HS with a 3-0 loss to Jared Freni and the first place Chiefs. The Bulldogs drew an unlucky break when they ran into the league's most dominant pitcher who's last start was rained out thus making him available for this game. Freni has been the league's Pitcher of the Year the past two seasons. Going into the game he had struck out 42 batters and given up just one run and two hits in his first three starts, including throwing a no-hitter. Darren Hartwell had two early bids for hits thwarted and other then that the Bulldogs only had one base runner on a walk until Hartwell came back up with two out in the sixth. Hartwell was the only Bulldog who could get a good swing off of Freni all night and he broke up the no hitter with a line drive triple to right center. That was the Bulldogs only highlight of the night offensively as they struck out fourteen times and had just the two base runners. Meanwhile, the Chiefs were limited to just six hits but five walks did in Reading ace Nick Kelley and the three runs with Freni on the mound which is usually enough for three of his starts. The Bulldogs tangle with the Chiefs again on Friday night at Endicott College with game time scheduled at 7:45.

The Bulldogs (4-4-1) were buoyed by the debut of a long sought after arm in defeating the Mooney Dental Tanners 5-0 in the annual Jere DeAngelis Memorial Classic played at Lexington HS on Saturday.
Taylor Robinson nephew of former RMHS standout catcher Dan Robinson, a four year starter for UMass Lowell, showed a great variety of pitches and mixed his speeds in well in shutting down the Tanners on two hits while striking out nine.
The Bulldogs out across the only run they would need in the first inning, when St. Johns Prep and URI incoming recruit Tommy Bounopane lined a two out single to right.
The Bulldogs put across four more runs along the way through strong fundamentals (5 sacrifice hits) and with the teams oldest player Andy Gagnon leading the way with two runs scored and a run batted in.
Meanwhile Robinson made quick work of the opposition, mowing down the first 14 batters and allowing just two sixth inning singles in a game that took just over 90 minutes to complete.
